I think in Houston at this rates people just don't get insurance anymore. They probably get it to register the vehicle and then cancel it? Now keep in mind we have a considerable number of illegals? what about those?

i know from experience that most of east Houston does not have insurance

    but

if you hit them, they will call the personal injury lawyer to squeeze you for $

    and we all pay

Insurance companies redistribute the wealth via the personal injury lawyers

    and the lawyer gets 40%

I pay $1600 for 4 cars, 2 drivers over 40. 2014 Tundra's share is $450 of that. The Forester is more expensive at $650. The other two cars are only covered for liability. Socal.

You asked for a briefing on the 'concept' of out of state LLCs, which I provided :hattip:

Now, if you are wanting 'legal advice', I'm going to have to refer you to your attorney

... or you could seek professional financial advice from our Resident Forum Financial Advisor (RFFA) @LarryDangerfield :D

This usually won't work in most states as insurance companies are required to report to the DMVs when policies are dropped. The state expects to have already received noticed that you acquired new insurance (prior to dumping your old policy), so if all they receive is the cancellation they'll generally suspend or revoke registration...

I finally read thru that website.

it appears it's not advisable to try and insure your daily ride with an out of state process.

    you can...but.

After reading about the amount of phone apps that report your bad driving habits to insurance companies I wonder if that is causing some of the rate increases.

My annual insurance costs nearly doubled this July. From $1400 to $2600 for home, two vehicles and a travel trailer. No claims or tickets. Although I've been know to drive the Fiat 124 like a wild man with a smashed bag a time or three.

So???? It's not like the state is gonna send someone out to retrieve that plate and registration. That driver is gonna drive that car long after the tab expires.

We all pay for this behavior.

Depends on how aggressive that jurisdiction (the LE side) is... A lot of places have 'traffic' units that are dedicated to dealing w/violations of the MV code; so when one of those dudes runs your plate and it's revoked... instant PC for the stop and many are now impounding vehicles off the street w/o insurance or revoked registration (which is viewed differently than expired or unregistered).

Another heartache is departments that have 'plate readers' mounted on their vehicles. These things are just randomly scanning plates as the officer cruises along looking for stolen vehicles, warrants on the RO and registration violations... w/very little effort on the officer other than stopping the car and writing the ticket or making the arrest.

But yes, many folks don't operate w/insurance and it forces the rest of us to pay extra $$ to make up for what the are refusing or unable to pay for...

Really no different than our health care system, or even the groceries you buy (many stores no longer stop/prosecute shoplifters and just build extra margin into their pricing to cover loss)...

the redistribution of wealth is right in front of us.

Since COVID and the Blue wave in Houston our LE is literally non existent. I can see with my own eyes. Driving in Houston is literally like Mad Max and nobody is stepping up to clean up this mess. Insurance the same, I have several friends and relatives that got into accidents and most of the with uninsured illegals that usually run from accidents. They're stuck with the bills and insurances going up. When you see a paper plate, don't just avoid it, but run as fast as you can. I never imagined this country to go to shit as fast as it did for the past few years. And the worst is yet to come unfortunately.

You guys aren't wrong; but we were told long ago how delicate and fragile our way of life is, and we were also told that destruction of our way of life would come from within... :(

Indeed, just like every other empires we will be "imploding" sooner than later. But there are internal blue forces helping that cause and so are some of the external commie forces that are helping as well. Nobody wants us well :( As long we still have our 1st and 2nd amendments we will be OK for a little bit more, I hope.

Yep. I live in KS, have a $1000 deductible on full coverage for a 2020 1794, no tickets, accidents or claims and in my mid 50's; I pay $980/year. And it just went up $200 a year. My agent said everyone's insurance is going up because of what is going on in CA.

I dunno. All I know is that when I moved from MO to VA last August, I was paying $2K/year for 2 vehicles, 100/200/100 coverage, $750 deductible. House was about the same.

Now? $1300/year for better coverage on vehicles (with Erie vice GEICO) and $1200/year for better coverage. Either way I'm happy. :)

58 year old, no accidents, no tickets since 1985, only had one and even it was a BS ticket.

    $1900 a year. 250/500/250, $500 deductible, rental coverage.

2 comprehensive claims, both related to weather. One was on a Tundra, the other on my current ride, Silverado.

Single, only me on the policy, that includes a discount for good driver and multi policy, my home owners. Oh ya that went up as well.

I parked at LAX, nose in. I didn’t have a front license plate. When I came back from my trip, I had a ticket for no front plate. I’m guessing I was scanned when I entered and reported. Parking enforcement lit me up. Big brother
