I would assume this is because if you lift the body up the engine stays in the same place while the air box is lifted up.

I'd like one of these tubes if the price was right, what's the real goal of it though? Is it just for the nice intake noise or does it actually gain you a few HP?

Hard to say if I noticed any gains with mine.
Supposedly the lack of resonators on the tube helps with flow. Also I it makes more noise. I like mine.

I want one just for the intake noise. To hell with the HP loss. You need to hear that V8 sing!

In theory, you shouldn't. If you only use the air tube, not the filter, not the housing, the change is not much different from porting an engine, in that you're optimizing and smoothing out the flow of air into the throttle body. And getting rid of the charcoal box on the intake tube, which may actually increase the efficiency of PCV reclamation for the passenger side head, at least.

Some of the new Tundra models push a V8 sound through the speakers inside the vehicle like the F150's do. You could just mimic that :D

I'd feel so cheated/defeated to have engine sounds playing over my in-cabin speakers.

Wish I could find that damn video someone posted on here of an EV that had a wood rod smacking a 2 litter bottle to give lopey cam sound in an EVE a while back. Because that's what your comment reminds me of.

Oh I would. I'd do the cone filter under the hood. One of my SHOs had just that and the intake noise was glorious!

Ha! My friend has a third gen I accidentally crushed his heart when I told him about the speaker noise. He thought it was from the engine and loved how deep it sounded.

Just curious. How often do you use one of these things? I almost bought a craftsman set selling for 1/2 price at $40 when K-mart was going out of business but I’ve never really had much of a need for it.

I didn’t strictly need a set, but this one retails for around $300 and was basically NIB except for one tap; I have twisted off a couple of bolts/nuts in my time and this thing helps chase threads after you drill things out. Already used it to clean up the threads on my skid plate.

You would probably need it more than I, as you are in the rust belt and more prone to fastener breakage. But anyone can need one to repair a cross-threaded fastener. I've only needed to borrow my dad's tap and die set twice. It's THE tool for the job.

I never heard of it until now! But I haven't been in the new car market since 1997 . I could see using it to create opposing/canceling waves to make cabins quieter, but doing it to make bro noises is pretty pathetic really.

Strangely, if I needed one for an O2 stud, I wouldn’t have the space to use it unless I could pull the stud, but in that case I’d buy a new one. I’m not sure about reaming out a bolt hole though.

It was ingenious, effective, and well, a bit embarrassing. I have pictures somewhere, but it involved using the good fastener to secure one side, and using a metal clamp to hold down the other.... :anonymous:

Temporary permanent... if it works, was it a bad idea?
One of my bungs was so rusted the flange was missing within 1/8 of the O2 hole.... turned my head like I didn't even see it, yup good.

Alright I don’t really want to start a new thread for a quick discussion. Headunit is on the fritz and has a mind of its own. Actually makes it awful to drive with on.

Any recommendations for an Apple CarPlay head unit? Looking at this one and I’m willing to get rid of my dash mount to do it.

Almost all name-brand head units can accept firmware updates. I'd start there.

That said, that Pioneer is nice and offers wireless CarPlay. I don't personally like floating-screen head units, but as long as you keep it at 9" or less (which that Pioneer is), you should be aight.

You may also want to check out the Alpine Halo9, although the price point may not be appetizing. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_500ILXF509/Alpine-Halo9-iLX-F509.html

Also, for wireless CarPlay, but it'll fit in your dash like your Sony, from Alpine: https://www.crutchfield.com/p_500ILX507/Alpine-iLX-507.html

That latter one allows you to update the splash screen at load, you can have it show a Toyota logo at car-on time if you want.

Forgot to mention that I did try numerous factory resets and even the firmware update. The head unit will not accept the update on multiple thumb drives well within Sony’s requirements.

this seemed like a good size and I’ve seen a picture where it’s more flush to the bezel as well.

I broke my downstream drivers the other week. Couldn't extract it and had to drill it, couldn't cut good enough threads. This was my attack plan, worked fine and didn't throw a code.

The taps are used often, dies practically never. This is why I don't buy tap and die sets, just taps.
