I personally couldn't handle having that big thing protruding at me. I prefer flush in-dash.

But I also live in an area with high population density, and with higher human count comes an increase in opportunistic crime. It's just the nature of the beast, with 'more people' you get 'more everything'.

So that influences what I installed to a great degree. I went with in-dash in hopes to avoid an opportunistic smash-and-grab. I can't have $600-$1,200 hanging out of my dash and still feel comfortable parking in a public deck to go to a concert or something.

I only mention that because everything I just said shapes the opinion of any audio advice I give you or give to anyone else on here. Pioneer and Alpine both make top-notch stuff, you can't go wrong. Hell, Toyota even used Pioneer to make the radios in some of their vehicles!!

We’ll see. The one mounted flush up on the hvac bezel looked really good because like you I don’t want a big honking screen that looks out of place. I think this is as big as you can go cleanly

I just want one with a volume knob that isn't stupid expensive. That's why I use single DINs.

Ditto. I want a volume knob with double DIN touchscreen and wireless CarPlay. Why someone can’t make that I really don’t understand. I expect it would sell like hotcakes.

Sony makes one? But after how bad this POS has been I’d never buy another Sony head unit. Luckily I didn’t pay for this thing.
I have a dongle that plugs in for wireless CarPlay. Works pretty good if the damn head unit would work lol

I am not a fan of touch screen volume controls. It's annoying and hard to focus on when I'm trying to pay attention to the road. I always will prefer physical knobs.

Hell, I haven't upgraded the audio in the Tundra or my Camry yet. I just use a bluetooth speaker in my Camry as my "radio". The factory one is kaput.

I’m the same. I’d prefer a volume knob, but I’d give that up first for screen real estate.

What all exactly is it doing? I have a Sony unit in my daily Lexus and in the Tundra and they work great, they are a bit older and are wired android auto/Apple carplay only but they work fine 99 percent of the time.

I just like the tactile feel of the knob. And for when I'm letting the 15s eat I can crank it down real fast if I see the popo.

So on Crutchfield, if you select "touchscreen 6.51" to 7"", "Android Auto", and "volume knob", you get a whopping 5 choices. 3 Jensens, 1 Dual, and one Pioneer that's a single din pop up screen for $700. The Dual may not be bad since it has higher voltage preouts and I'm using amps, but it sounds off in my daughters sequoia. I'll probably end up getting one for Ironman and one for Donut anyways.

I'd love to see that thing in action. Just before I sold my Tacoma I was looking into pulling a u-joint apart. Every video I found online showed a struggle. Hammering, cutting, pressing, frustration. I didn't see a single video (not saying my search was exhaustive) where they had the "right" tool and got it done. Everyone was making it work as best they could, and it was a fight. I assumed that's just the way it goes...If that's not the case, that's great to know!

The single din units can be ok. I've been fairly impressed with the Boss unit I put in my daughter's car. 7 inch screen and a volume knob.

It puts pressure on the trunions instead of the bearing cap.

Speaking of u joints. Buddy’s dad tried taking apart the double cardone so that didn’t go so well LOL. I’m whipping around in a 3G Tacoma. Haven’t been in one since they came out but I really should buy a double cab lol.

My friend’s 18 year old son just bought a 2006 KTM 640 Adventure. The digital speedometer shows only 4500 miles. I’m very familiar with those bikes, so i had him bring it over to my shop. I’m estimating that there’s closer to 24,500 miles on it.

I think it’s mainly honing your own technique. I’ve replaced over a hundred U joints in my life (many of them trailside) so i’m not intimidated to replace them.

…that being said, it used to be that if i purchased my U joint at Six States, the guy there would install them for free (if you brought in your axle shaft or driveline). I could never say no to that offer!

EDIT: full disclosure...when i first began replacing my own joints, i did screw up and wrecked a couple of them.

That would be the perfect unit if it has a DVD player.
By car play you mean Bluetooth or something more?
All my pioneer screens have had bluetooth and DVD players. But not knob.:(

Carplay is the equivalent to android auto, but for Apple phones. You can use your phone apps on your radio unit either by hardwire(phone plugged in) or wireless.
