IMG_7077.jpgThis pic, is definitely not fully seated, and that would explained the wear marks on the ecgs bushing. You were two wheelin bro. Get pics of the end of the cv shaft, bet it has a lot of rotational wear on the tip

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it was prior, though. It had been installed since 2020 and the regear was in 2022. The first seal replacement was right before T2S 2023.

I'm not sure if the bushing moved on its own or if the guy that's working on it now moved it before that pic.

Now that I think about it, T2S is when I noticed my truck was making some noises in 4wd at medium low speeds. Casey pointed it out once at HF as well. Possibly the same weekend I played in the mud and the diffs got wrecked.

I wonder what would cause the bushing to move

What @des2mtn pointed out, bushing is definitely not fully seated, in that pic you can see the mating surface for the seal is super far away.
You never noticed any oil under the truck when parked? Gotta keep a eye on that kinda stuff after big installs

That's what's weird is up until 2023 there weren't any leaks.

I'm convinced the bushing was fine when it was installed in 2020. I just don't know what would cause it to move. I also wonder if the bushing moving caused the leak or if the leak allowed debris in the diff and pushed the bushing out. Either way diff leaked, debris got in and yeah the bushing isn't seated now.

All I can think of is maybe when dude did the regear in 2022 the bushing got moved.

A very odd situation, that bushing definitely isn’t very easily moved, like you said maybe something in the diff was off enough to cause a ruckus big enough to force things out that side and leak/let stuff come in. Definitely a heart breaker

You're missing the dust seal, might not have come with your aftermarket CV axle or the aftermarket CV axle isn't meant to use one. Since your ECGS and CV axle aren't seated enough, there isn't even a chance for the dust shield to mate against your diff seal.

Hopefully she'll be bullet proof after this.
I still want to regear and LSD swap my other truck, but now I'm a little gun shy.
I should have the funds for both trucks, but damn...

The only silver lining I guess is that dude's gotta pull the axles out to do the rear diff anyways, so I'll save a little on the cost of new wheel bearings install. Not that it'll make a difference to the bigger picture of costs lol

I was wondering where that was too. Me and Casey definitely moved it over from the old CV.

Truck is at the shop at the moment waiting on the driveshaft I just ordered. I need to warranty out both my front axles, replace outer tie rods, probably replace the passenger side spindle, front wheel bearings, figure out what's popping during slow speed turns, valve cover gaskets, and probably forgetting a few things. A lot of parts just sitting waiting to go on too, but it's silly to dig into a lot of this until I go long travel since all of it would come out anyways. I've got some time for the TBWP and the LBJ's are still in great shape. Really the frustration is having to constantly fixing the daily driver. I was hoping to be a lot further along with this truck by now, but that's life. The plan was to get something else for the daily driver after I got it setup decently for what I want it to do, but I'm just being bipolar and irritated right now.

Yeah haven't gotten around to purchasing a second vehicle yet. I was riding out no payments for a while and I'm getting way to comfortable with not having one haha. That and I can squeeze off a lot of these mods as "maintenance" to my wife lol. She knows how much money I lost when the last truck got totaled so she's super conscious when I start modifying this one.

I'd say we drive both the vehicles equally when we go anywhere together. She's starting to learn and has a decent idea of how much stuff costs though. Damn shame haha.

I blame the mud. There are people who make things, and people who break things. Mud people break things.

Riddle me this. My father in law has a 2012 RAV4 like us. We both bought ours new. His burns oil bad and ours doesn't burn any. He's always done like 10k+ oil changes with some fancy oil. We've always done 3-5k.

    Coincidence?
