It's not the industries per se. It is the industries trying to comply with ever-increasing government regulations.

First the Tundras now I find out all new Tacoma's need the automatic transmissions repaired or replaced. WTF is going on at Toyota....
Repair & sell that pile of shit.
    Get a good condition 14-21.
Turbo gas is great for racing.
Not so for work trucks. Turbo Diesel last longer because of their heavy duty internals and low engine speeds.
3.4 liters for a truck that's almost 3 tons dry is crazy.

Not anymore. EGRs and DEF have decimated the reliability of diesels.

I had to wait 9 months for a part from Toyota. Another part, another 8 months. Toyota is definitely not immune to part supply issues.

Do you guys realize how "oooga-booga" you guys sound. I've gone from my 2016 to a 2011 and now to my 24. I'm a contractor, this thing is miles beyond my other trucks. They are the future. BTW the 2007 had engine failure. I know 3 other contractors with 22s no issues and over 70k miles

Yeah I'll be 6 weeks in until a charging module shows up for mine.

Was there a 100,000 truck recall on the 5.7 for catastrophic engine failure? That's a legit question, because I didn't start into the Toyota/Tundra world until 2019.

Oooga-booga is the only thing we were left with in gen2 part of the forum. But our old trucks deliver it in loads!

Also we don't have open recall for engine replacement for 2 model years.

I'm not unhappy with my 22 despite being on the engine recall list. That being said I would take the modern interior updates with the 5.7 under the hood. I get about the same mileage as my 2014.

I don't believe the 5.7 is a bullet proof as some people make them out to be, however that being said, I WISH Toyota would have made these trucks with the 5.7 instead of a V6, just for the fact that a big truck should have a nice rumbly exhaust sound to it :)

    Meh.
I can point out 20 things I like about a Dardge Ram more than a Tundra.

likewise with a Ford, and GM truck. They’re great….

    .. until they’re not.

Which is the only point us “stupid Ooooga Booooga poors” have ever made. Gen 3s have spent more time in the “until they’re not” column than the 2’s.

Someone needs to send a bullet (which one? .22? .308? 12GA slug?) into 3UR and take all the guessing out of question.

There were only 20 5.7s that had a camshaft failure when first debuted. A very small number of them have experienced catastrophic valve spring failure, but it was nowhere near a common enough problem for Toyota to include it in the very large valve spring recall in like 2010. Its two most common issues—cam tower seepage and timing chain rattle—are just annoying, but the engine will keep humming along. There are coolant valley leaks (seems more common in 200 series than Tundra/Sequoia) to be aware of as well.

The main thing to realize is, this engine was designed back when complying with the EPA only meant selling a ton of Priuses. And, as mentioned already, no sweeping recalls.

I have the last three gens of the Tundra and it’s not miles beyond the others at all. All three have their pros and cons. Honestly the ride quality and stock sound/media system are the only things the current Gen is significantly better at than the others.
They’re all great trucks in my opinion and I love them all.

Edit: The more comfortable ride only applies to the ones with AVS. The others ride like dog shit.

But they made up for it by producing the worst looking interior of all time.

I would have to opine that the interior that was in my dad’s ‘76 Maverick would top that.

My 22 TRD Sport is the best riding truck I have ever owned. Better than the previous Ram which was too soft in certain situations.

I own a 23 Platinum. I have driven a 24 Pro, a 23 Limited, and a 24 Platinum without AVS. They all rode way worse than mine. Of course it’s relative and people have different ideas of what feels right. I keep mine in Comfort mode which I believe is only available on models with AVS.

Standard are different. Some people are buying trucks to be trucks not family cars. That said, my truck rides and tracks better than all high trim Japanese FWD CUVs I have test driven recently for my wife's new vehicle. Not even really close.

I can't speak to the ride with monster tires, lift kits and other mods. Never my thing. Some claim ride improvements but that is not my experience riding in other people's heavily modified trucks. Teeth shakers is what I have witnessed mainly.

Did you mean to tag @Eurodriver? I’m sure he’d be happy to shoot someone else’s truck. For a change. Sounds like you volunteered.?. :infantry:

    I vote .308.

As far as ride goes, even with e rated 20’s this thing rides great, better than my old 750il. Anyone saying other must have a Rolls as baseline.

Couldn't agree with you more! The jeep in the profile picture was my wife's and it went down the road after 32K miles on the clock bought it brand new. Now she's back in another Toyota :)

Toyota vehicles may have a few more problems then they have in past years but who else are you going to buy a vehicle from?
