    You are correct.

By percentage buyers who are paying cash for a new Tundra are probably pretty low. Technically if you have to finance your truck, you are probably a poor.

This fact makes the “you’re too poor” argument coming from someone with a $800+/month truck payment very amusing to me. I might end up with a payment that large at some point because I don’t want to devote that much cash to purchasing a depreciating asset, and because I’m a poor, but I won’t make that lame ass argument to others who don’t like whatever it is I buy.

lol what? Chevy 1500’s have a 4 cylinder turbo option, ford f150 6 cylinder eco boost. This isn’t a Toyota thing, this is an epa regulations thing.

I don't think we can assume there wasn't a design change associated with the engine recalls. I don't know for certain but it seems plausible, certainly when you see Toyota starts noting mid-24 when it comes to certain things.

You and your Volvos'. I had 240 wagon, a Cross Country wagon and my wife just bought a 2024 XC. They are duller than dog shit to drive. The 240 was a utilitarian box but slower than Molasses. The newest ones have electronics that make a new Tundra look like a savant. You should find a better brand to be blowing your horn about.

I've only been on the forum for 18 months or so since I started research on buying a Tundra. It's still the only forum with the previous Gen talking shit about the new Gens that I know of. Range Rover, you don't see the older versions bitching about the later versions or vice versa. Corvette owners, I used to have one, can be a big pain I the ass but the C7 guys don't wallow in the C8 flaws and vice versa. Same for Porsche.
Maybe truck guys are just assholes?

    Nah.

Toyota has taken over for Buick in the customer demographics department. Building boring shit for boring old people who don’t like change.

Deviating from the 2nd Gen Tundra that was the flip phone of 1/2 tons and updating it put off the Fudds who hate newfangled things. So there’s some built in angst there. Then to make matters worse the roll out of the 3rd Gen has been troubled to say the least with the engine recall giving all the Fudds confirmation of their prognostications of doom.

I will not be buying a 3rd Gen because I just decided I don’t like it and don’t want a 1/2 ton as my next daily driver. I am leaning towards a new Land Cruiser instead which has just as much if not more tech though.

i don’t know dragger, the new tundra is anything but boring lol

most of the gen 2 dudes specifically say that’s what they like about the last gen.

I certainly get that viewpoint, but I like what they did.

bottom line , rides, hauls, and tows awesome with AVS and auto load leveling rear .

and boost is fun , ha!

This makes sense to me and I like the "we lost the flip phone" analogy. Still, is asshole behavior to wallow around in it.
I carried a flip phone for back up for a long while when carrier coverage sucked in Colorado. After a while, I tired of it. It just wasn't that good any more.
About a month ago I drove a 5.7 for a day and while I thought it was wonderful when I owned one I just thought it was terrible and old for what I expect now. Seriously lacking power and the suspension was a buckboard. I haven't found the time to post my review on the Gen 2 forum. Why would I?
I don't know anything about LC's but I'm sure you'll make a good choice. To your point, there's probably 80% overlap on technology.

Right, because it was a 2nd gen owner that started this thread and bashed the 3rd gen for no good reason... oh... wait a minute. Nope. It was a 3rd gen owner with legitimate issues and problems. Huh. Maybe some 3rd gens have problems and some don't. Weird how that works.

I’d venture a guess, generally speaking with a broad brush, which never goes well lol

trucks typically attract more young males , more “alpha” males who feel the need to justify their place in the world and that decisions they make are sound

    Again a broad generalization

I was at Motorola when the flip phone was in its hey day. I learned an important lesson:
The prognosticators of doom are usually product marketing retards.

How many posts have there been about the truck is dull, too complicated, no body will buy it? Oh boy, a catastrophic recall, that's it, kill the Tundra and it might be over for Toyota they shouted from the mountain tops.

The height of the drama was what? May? Toyota sold almost 15,000 Tundras in August. That's up about 50% from pre pandemic Gen 2 levels and up month on month since the engine failure problem and recall surfaced.

I didn’t say the new Tundra is boring.

I should clarify, until recently Toyota was very much marketing to Boomers and Fudds. Recent product updates, and deviations from building Japanese Buicks have the old traditional Toyota buyers up in arms.

Still, when I was on the F150 forum trying to sort out that mess you didn't have the Gen2 vs Gen3 bullshit.

Well now I need to clutch my pearls and be offended because the internet isn't affirming my choice of vehicle. You must be too poor to afford one and are jealous. I pick the perfect vehicle and you're just a meanie if you can't admit it.

Well, they definitely had plenty of problems to talk about, that's for sure. I'm still frustrated my F150 didn't work out. It was a good design that just happened to blow up and couldn't be supported.

Probably more like a 90% overlap in technology with the new Tundra.

Both are based on TNGA-F architecture and frame.

I haven't invested the time to figure out platforms and all that. Usually, I care. Now, I could care less. I'm just running the snot out of the tundra and really like it.
I had a really nice Gen 3 guy looking at my truck at Lowes. He was really concerned that my large screen added a lot more complexity than his smaller screen. he loved his truck, no reason to point out the tech is exactly the same.
FWIW, not much, I'm 18000 miles and 1.5years into my 2023 1794 and it's never thrown a code or had a glitch after I got the seats programmed. That said, it does require an investment to learn the nuances and make them second nature. Like everything now... easy for you though.

Investing time to learn all the new Toyota operating system features is going to be just that: an investment in time. No way around it. Vehicles are no longer simple.

A minor fender bender last month is pushing up a vehicle purchase for us by 8-12 months and instead of me getting a new daily driver, we get to replace my wife’s normal daily. Unfortunately parts are unobtainable for the Chevrolet SS and it’s a total loss for want of a bumper cover, a wiring harness for parking sensors, and a few other parts.

We’ve taken the time to test drive a Toyota Crown Platinum, a Toyota Crown Signia (XLE if memory serves), and a Toyota Land Cruiser 1958. They all have loads more tech than my old 2nd Gen, nothing is the same from a tech standpoint. We’re at a bit of a quandary on what to proceed with, Land Cruiser will be a put down a deposit and wait 6 months proposition for the trim level and color we would want, which is impractical even though that was her favorite and mine too. I would happily daily one of those for 15 years until I can retire, but probably not in the cards at this point.

Maybe I can find a CPO Crown Platinum in the low to mid $40K range, and pay cash. Then get a Land Cruiser next year that my wife will promptly confiscate whenever she thinks she can.

My Volvo's served a purpose but after them I flipped to Saabs for my mountain snow cars. Horrible torque steer, awful turbo lag and the shifters were connected to the gearbox with rubber bands but they were fun as hell to drive. Keeping them on the boost in a blizzard was a blast. In defense of the Volvos, I sold the two I drove to friends and they both went a jillion miles with little issue. A boring jillion miles but a jillion miles none the less.
