Just installed the Headlamp Dimmer Switch Assembly (for Auto light control) and went to install the Light Control Sensor only to realize that the wiring harness for it to connect to wasn’t installed by the factory. Does anyone know what the wiring harness part number is and how hard it is to install?

I would think there has got to be one in there.
It should have been inserted into the center dash speaker cover, with or without a sensor in it.

You may have to pull the HU and find it.
At least pull the center dash speaker and see if it is down in there.

Thanks, I’ll pull the HU and see if it’s down there.

I pulled my dash speakers years ago but just went out and dug mine out.

Pull the center speaker first, much easier than the HU.
Stick your hand down in there and I bet you'll find it.
The wiring loom is wrapped in foam like in the pic above..
I have an SR5 as well..

Hmm. I just pulled out the speaker and all I see is this wire…

I don’t see the 6 pin connector. The one wrapped in foam is a 4 pin for the speaker.

Here’s the HU pulled. Still don’t see a 6 pin coming off the main harness.

    That sucks.
There are a few wire looms wrapped in foam.
My SR5 has the upgrade package, but I would think they would all have the same wiring..

I'll try to pull my HU this weekend and see what it is connected to.
That wiring is connected to the main body ECU with the J3 connector, pins 18,19, 20
I doubt you're going to find a separate harness for it.

Did you already replace the turn signal stalk?

Negative. Do I need to replace the turn signal stalk?

Here’s the original white sheet specs I have for my truck…

My guess is… it’s included in the SR5 upgrade package. :frusty:

Do you have a column shifter and bench front seat?
That may have something to do with it..:(

I left myself a reminder to pull my HU this weekend if I have time.
I thought for sure it was going to be in there..

    It's odd, isn't it?

Yeah, I noticed that a lot members on here have a center console shifter, but mine comes with a column shifter and center foldable bench seat. It seems like I have a bastardized SR5 ‘14 or something.

    You can read thru this
Adding Auto Headlights by Headlight Switch? | Toyota Tundra Forum (tundras.com)

I know somewhere there is a thread to add auto headlights, but it did involve removing the steering wheel and replacing the turn signal stalk with an auto headlight stalk.

I had a bench seat in my 2005.
I can't remember what they were, but there were a few differences in the wiring of bucket seat trucks..

Yes! I did that! I installed the “Headlamp Dimmer Switch Assembly”. That works as expected (minus the Auto feature since the sensor isn’t plugged in).

Herm, someone mentions having to buy a small sub-harness for a connector located under the dash, but that’s for an 08 4Runner. Wondering if there’s a connector somewhere for mine as well…

If not, it looks like I’ll have to run wires that splice/tap into pins 18, 19, 20 at the J3 ECU, which may be a bit out of my league.

It was bugging me you didn't have that plug..
I pulled my HU and the plug wire and the center speaker wire come out of the same loom.
I guess the SR5 'upgrade' includes that wire and plug..

Thank you taking the time to snap some pictures and offer help! That’s unfortunate that mine didn’t come with the damn 6 pin on the main harness… :(

Just for confirmation, my truck 100% doesn’t include any connections for pins 18, 19, 20 to the J3 connector (2nd connector from the top, middle column, last 3 pins located at the bottom are empty).
    IMG_1769.jpg

The bright side is I don’t need to splice any wires, but I do need to source: 24awg wires, terminal connectors, and the 6 pin connector. For record keeping, I’m going to see if a local junkyard has the wiring harness I can snip & extend, if not I’m going to use this to try to build my own.

After what felt like ages, I finally did it! I made a custom wiring harness and everything just worked!

    You wanna make another one?
My truck is a grade SR5, lower end, and I’d like to have auto headlights.

Yes! But it won’t be cheap. The cost to acquire the parts/tools was quite expensive and it takes a couple hours to make the harness. When I have some time, I’m going to write an updated (and very detailed) how to and provide an option to just order one (I originally followed this , but it’s a bit dated). Stay tuned!
