Update on 2nd key fobs for those that have 1

I spoke with a Toyota rep today, he said "phase 8" of 2nd key fobs will be sent out at the end of October. For those part of that phase, you will receive a letter, take that to your dealer and they will program your 2nd fob.
My truck was originally purchased June of this year to give you a reference of how far Toyota is behind on issuing key fobs.

 

Yeah I just had my 5K service done. Asked about my second fob and he said not yet. I purchased mine in June.

 

Yeah, still waiting for mine. Purchased in early March, truck was built mid February. I've called twice and got different dates. Last time it was supposed to be August.

 

Who did you call, dealer or Toyota?

Last update I recieved from Toyota brand engagement is middle to end of October. My truck is a 02/24 build date

 

Yeah it keeps changing, so who knows. I'm probably in the same group as you. It started off as June/July then August, now maybe October I guess. I was going to call again but just never did.

 

Wow, still that far behind? Mine was built in August, bought in September & got BOTH keys!

 

We bought a TRD Pro Sequoia back in February and just got the second key yesterday. I’m a little frustrated though. I got home, took the second key that was programmed from the dealership out of the package and it’s marked Grand Highlander. Yes it works, but for a $90K vehicle, I would expect to have a matching key, or at least one unmarked. Not a key with a completely different model marked on it.

Still waiting on the Tundra key but we’ve only had it a couple months.

 

Straight from the brilliant minds over at the stealership. Leftover MY24 will now come with 2 keys, probably so the dealer can move them quicker.

MY25 comes with 2 keys.

PS my ‘24 was built in Feb, took delivery in March. Still one key.

Apparently the new Taco smart key will work for our trucks. Part #8990H - A1010. The car care nut did a video about.

Do you know the build date range or purchase date range included in phase 8?

 

I don't. Mine was built in March of 24' though

 

I am guessing if I bought my truck used and it only came with one key, I have to purchase the second key?

 

That would depend on on if the original owner received 1 or 2 key fobs, if they received 1 and Toyota recognizes you as the current owner you should receive a 2nd.
