Man after doing a little research it looks like Motive has been around for a while. I found an old Pirate 4x4 Thread from back in the day saying that they're very good. If it passes those OGs they're probably pretty solid. And @dirtydeeds stamp of approval carries more than a little weight
    https://www.pirate4x4.com/threads/motive-gear.908919/

    Possibly jumping in on this

Edit: at least approving the parent company that is

I'm all for saving money, but there are some things I wouldn't cheap-out on. This is one of them.

I would agree, but from the digging I've done, this seems to be legit. My gut feeling is that his is a rare pricing discrepancy that I'm taking advantage of. And if not, then it'll be a problem for future me to learn from. I learn most of my lessons the hard way, no reason to change now lol.

Future you should get E lockers instead. My gear installer wouldn’t put his name on sets with ARBs

Parent company is heavily underwater... I don't believe anyone bought Nitro during the recent proceedings, and I suspect what inventory is remaining will go to auction. Heck... maybe I'll pick it up! :spy:

Frankly I don’t know how you can dispute the authenticity of these gears when they are being drop shipped from the manufacturer.

Interesting, whys that? I plan on having an ARB Dual for airing up already, which makes the Air Lockers a more price effective package compared to E-Lockers. I'm honestly indifferent between the two operating systems, just going based off price & required equipment.

Internal seals seem to shit the bed easily. I’ve got a dual arb and I still went with a e locker. I was just going off experience from my builder who’s done tens of thousands of gear builds.

Well that's about as much authority as one can have on differentials.
I'd really like to pick up a set of cores. That seems like the least painful way to do a regear/locker installation. And just good piece of mind to have around honestly. All it takes is money I suppose...

That’s a lot! At 2 differentials per day, 5 days per week, and 52 weeks a year, you’re talking 520 gear setups per year. If we use a relatively conservative number of 20,000 (“tens of thousands”), you’re talking about a fella that has set up two differentials a day for over 38 years. With no vacations. Sheesh! That’s a lot!

I’m just fuckin’ with ya. I like to do that with numbers….

Same thing happened in the cast iron thread years ago. I mentioned I used a product called the ringer and, I assume, quite a few people looked at it. Price jumped from $21 to ~$27 overnight. Coincidence? :notsure:

Precisely why I ordered mine before posting about it. I figured at least one of us was getting a steal. Is that selfish?

Price went back down! But not all the way back down.

They must have seen the thread was going south and had an “oh crap, they’re onto us. We’re losing customers” moment

I do that for a living on try-tanium... captive lab.

In order to characterize the structure, measure any case hardening/surface treatment, and conduct a hardness survey I'd charge more than what you'd pay for a set of gears.

All eight Genuine Toyota bearings, seals, and crush spacer for $268 (+shipping) out of Japan. We might be able to trim that down further by finding any aftermarket Koyo that may happen to be available.

I’d love to acquire everything found in the Master bearing kit for both diffs. Do you think the best way to do it is just buy the kit or is that paying a premium for convenience vs buying the parts individually? I was trying to find just the shims for example and was having trouble.
