My truck had a PERMA GUARD liner installed when I bought it, a typical rail under-over setup, mounts under the side rails and over the front rail @ the cab. I hate the holes drilled for access to the front tie-downs, there's no way to cap and crap falls in there all the time.

My current liner is getting thin, some splits and holes although it still looks alright. I see OEM replacements are cheap-enough and maybe it's vain but I want a big fat TOYOTA logo on my liner. Seems the p/n for my '06 AC Limited is PT271-34012 (EDIT: Part list for all liners is HERE, below), it's almost cheaper than a single headlight housing.

Anyway, got some questions for anyone who has the Toyota OEM version, anyone take a stab at these or shoot some pics of yours?

    • Is the OEM Toyota liner pretty thick overall? I use pitchforks and shovels for tossing hay, straw, mulch all the time. That's why my current liner is worn.
    • Does OEM liner have cutouts for the forward tie-down loops, or do the tie-downs mount over the liner like my rear ones? (see below)
    • Are there molded slots for installing separator boards on the OEM liner like my current liner? (see below)
    • Anyone see any threads around here showing front corner drain modifications for bed liner?
    • Got any gripes or beef with your OEM liner?
PS - For any of you fellows in the ATL area, if you need a new liner, I'll let mine go cheap-cheap to help pad my expense on a new liner. It's still good if you're not using stabby tools around it.

I took mine out after 17 years and cleaned the mulch out and then sprayed the bed with Rustoleum Bed Liner (4-5 cans). I sprayed the side tail gate and down into the lower bumper area for better looks. Put the OEM Plastic back on and clean/sprayed it as well.

I OEM Plastic is thick and has held well. I like it because its tough padding and doesn’t allow dents to pass through. I do have maybe 1-2 little punctures from sharp stuff, but overall its hard to penetrate.

I removed the OEM bed drains and drilled two small holes in the Plastic liner above to facilitate drainage better. Saved the plastic drain cover for just in case.

Hey, are those screws (circled in red) at the back of the bed holding the liner down? If so, did the factory liner come with them, or were they added?
I have an aftermarket ‘Pendaliner’, and it has a tendency to bow up in the middle, wondering if screws would help.

Oh, and the ones at the top corner in the back- didn’t notice them at first, my liner also pops out there sometimes.

Yeah. Those are metal roofing screws with the rubber washers. I had some laying around and zipped them in as they are self tapping. Yes I did this to help with some bowing near the gate areas and the looseness up near the cab upper lip. I used to have side boxes on her and supported them off the wheel well with Flexible Adhesive on fabbed up posts.

Here is a shot of those screws I used on a gate drop assist I fabbed up.

Sure thing. The parts I used are on my build page. Used a Dodge Strut and big box lumber fastener bracket. You’ll need additional (longer) post bolts for the Strut ordered on Big Gurrl. Large washers for behind the bolt heads where they fasten behind the sheet metal otherwise the bolts might rip out of the sheet metal. Positioning the strut is critical for optimal function.

A yard of mulch is about as much weight as I like to put into old faithful. I had about 1.5" b/w the frame and the bump stops which I figure is enough travel when driving around town at 40 MPH.

So did you end up getting an OEM toyota bedliner @shifty`? If so, how do you like it? The reason being is that i found a used oem toyota bedliner for sale and i’m thinking about going after it. I currently have a plastic drop in bedliner, but i’m missing the tailgate liner so i have to be very careful to not dent it up until i get some protection for it.

My truck came with bedliner, and has had it all of my ownership. Does a great job of protecting from scratches and dents but is hell on the knees. You can buy OEM bedliners still thru the Toyota Parts website. I had (and subsequently lost) the part number for it though.

When i google search that part number, toyota says that bed liner for a regular cab, not an AC.

You guys are right. But I'd add some extra info for you both, and I'll edit my post above to link down here, since my p/n above wasn't right.

Toyota makes a couple of variations on their liners. They use the acronmys "UTR" and "OTR" to define whether the bedliner goes over the bedrail or under. Typical is under, with an over-rail only at the cab side. I'm guessing some (all?) of the RC trucks come with no bedrail caps, which is why both options are offered there. I couldn't find an OTR version for AC/DC/SS.

    OTR / RC: PT271-34014
    UTR / RC: PT271-34010

    UTR / AC: PT271-34012

    UTR / SS: PT271-34030 (SS = stepside)

    UTR / DC: PT271-34040

@shifty` Did you pull the trigger on the Toyota branded liner? Did you keep the Perma Guard liner? My brother's 02 AC has the same Perma Guard liner and it's fine, but the bed rail caps need to be replaced. So, I'm in the market for a pair if you have some to sell.

I decided to keep the Permaguard after checking out the Toyota branded liner on a junkyard truck and seeing it was actually a bit thinner.

Bedrail caps ... why does he need them? Are they physically damaged or just faded?

I saw a guy near me on FB Marketplace recently selling a couple of pairs for like $40/ea or maybe $40/both pairs. In great shape. I was tempted to buy, but it was, like, in Columbus GA or Augusta GA or something and I wasn't willing to make the drive.

The caps are physically damaged. I found a guy locally who is getting out of the tonneau cover business and he's selling his stock cheap and including installation. I was ready to buy one and help the guy install it until he saw the damaged cap and said it needed to be replaced before the install.

Looks like Westin was the original manufacturer and they have discontinued them. RockAuto has a placeholder for them, but no stock, which is the story for all the other sources I've discovered. There's a guy right now on FB Marketplace that has a pair (P/N 72-01721) NIB for $20, but he's in Anderson SC (5 hours from me) and unwilling to ship. I MAY have found a source in CA, but I'll have to wait a few more hours until they open.

Ah - that may be the guy I saw on FBM, Anderson is 2hrs away. I'd drive up and grab them for you to shorten the drive, I could visit my BIL and my nephews and neices for the day, but I've gotta roll out of the country for the next week to handle some family business. If they're still around when I get back, I'd be willing to make the trek, install the new ones on my truck, and give you my old ones (which are practically mint, only 79,700 miles on them) for free, if ATL isn't too far. Or you pay the ride on shipping to save gas and time, and they're yours? Just tossing out some ideas.

But really, www.car-part.com and try to find a salvage yard near you with some. You'll probably pay more like $30/side, but ...

Thanks! I'll check out the site you mentioned above. Also, I'll know more by 10 AM CT when the potential source in CA opens. Their site says they have them in stock for $97.99 and free shipping. If that's true, I'll pull the trigger on those.

@shifty` The CA source was a bust. They were able to tell me that Westin just stopped making the part in August of this year. Looks like the supply is drying up fast. I tried the car-part website, but I didn't see that any of the available bed liners were Perma Guard. They all seem to be "Pendaliner". I'm new to this whole thing, but making the assumption that the rail caps need to be the same brand as the rest of the liner to fit properly. If that's not true, then I might be able to get the caps from one of the car-part yards. The nearest location is NC. After that, it's NY and beyond. I'll also look for an individual scrap yard nearby, but they're a little harder to search. The local LKQ didn't have a Tundra at all. Most times when they do get one, someone buys the whole carcass and hauls it off.

    Wait ...

First off ... The drop-in (blown) bedliner, whether Permaguard, Pendaliner, Toyota branded, it should be a UTR (under the rail mount, with exception of the cab side rail, where it's OTR (over the rail)

Bedliners come in both UTR and OTR format, and mixed like our trucks have.

The bedrail covers are an OEM snap-in piece, independent of the liner I think with exception to RCLB which has no factory rail cover available.

Are you confusing the two here? Like, lierally, see the parts exploded, the rail covers (66248 & 66249) are an OEM part (and cost a fortune). I'm telling you to hit a salvage yard for those pieces.

The bedliner is an add-on/drop-in liner, and an aftermarket company is likely making the Toyota branded units.

[EDITED to add both Part Numbers] The parts I need to replace are 66248B & 66249B. So, you're saying that ANY rail cap like that for the AC will fit?

Yes. If you find any AC bed with the rail caps still intact, you can pop them off.

Getting them off without snapping their retention clips can be tricky. I found the easiest way to do it is to open the tailgate, firmly grip the end of the rail end closest to the back, and sorta moderately push it it left/right while gently lifting, until the first couple clips come free. If it doesn't pop free, stand alongside the bed where the "TRD" sticker is on a lot of trucks, grab the end of the rail with both hands, and push it horizontally toward the bed while gently pushing down and lifting up the outer edge of the rail with the heel of your hand. If that makese sense? Like you're kneeding a dough, pushing inward, down, and rolling up.

@shifty` You were right! I called around to several salvage yards in the area and found one that had an AC Tundra with those bed rail caps. The guy even had them pulled for me when I got there and only charged me $25. I'm square now and already pinged the guy for the tonneau cover.

The bed has 100 holes in it to hold these in right? I guess they modified the stamping because as far as I know the 2000 year trucks didn't come with the rails, probably would be a pain to add.

The bed rail has upwards of 20 holes on each side to match the tabs on the bottom of the cap. Yep, it would be a royal pain to have to create those holes.
