I know there are quite a few threads on here about dash cams, using the Dongle up in the mirror, etc. However, I also know there are people having issues with the mirror harness turning power off with the auto/start feature. I currently have a Vantrue E1 dashcam mounted on top of my screen but it is only one channel. I’ve had several instances recently of people serving into my lane on the side where the camera doesn’t catch, so I’d like to get the Vantrue N4 Pro (3 channel) or Viofo A229 Pro (3 channel). Anyone get either of these successfully installed where they work with parking mode? I do need to say I have a tinted windshield which might cause issues with mounting as well. What have people done for that or mounting for the rear window which I constantly put up and down?

goes on the pinch weld, then you put the weather-stripping back on. Lots of us are using it for rear cams.

Perfect, just need to figure out the front cam and inside cam situation then. I can’t mount in the windshield as there is tint film and I’ve read it will pull the film up. Has anyone mounted one on the rear view mirror itself somehow or the plastic around that? Or maybe a bulletpoint dash system that is raised up somehow?

@dano9258 I mounted my front camera to my tinted windshield. I have the VIOFO cam and it came with a maybe 3”x3” clear plastic film that says to put on windshield then adhere the camera to that. I’m guessing instead of pulling on the tint it would pull the film. Had my cam mounted on my windshield this whole summer in Vegas. Haven’t noticed the camera pulling the tint at all.

Front cam you can mount to your tint. You just need to use a static sticker, like @702Bryan mentioned. There is no adhesive, just static cling & atmospheric pressure to keep it attached - holds plenty strong for my A229 Pro. I have a comprehensive write up in my build thread

Dongar is coming out with a new adapter that will have parking mode. Not sure what their ETA is; last I spoke with the owner, he said fall of this year.

As for the third channel, where do you want to mount it?

I was too worried about having to redo the ceramic tint, that I mounted it to my screen again, until I get a mount system for that tray area on the dash. I found the Vantrue E3 for $150 on Amazon which was a steal as it has the front, inside, and rear. I ran the back camera to the rear window and was able to mount it using the adhesive to the weatherstrip area and the window still works! Only issue I have now is hiding the wire on the dash or securing it better.

    any suggestions?

Have you tried using the power from the overhead? I see you say people have had problems with it but have you tried it to see if it does it to you? There is a pin in the original dash cam plug that is constant hot.

No I haven’t because a lot of people were saying it turns off when the auto on/off initiates.

What about with parking mode? Does it still work, and if so, has it ever killed your battery?

No parking mode with the current Dongar harness. They are coming out with a new one which will have always-on, and a battery safety auto-disconnect. It takes ~2 min to upgrade, and will be doing so when it is released.

Yes, this kit. My build thread has a detailed writeup on install.
