What have you done to your 2.5 gen Tundra today?

Pattern? What are you seeing? I went back and forth on trying to understand why the front bump stops only came with 1 for each side, but after discussing on here and with the vendor I was under the impression that was the intended use. Are there others suggesting the need for 4 up front?

 

I’m pretty happy with my Wheelers super bumps on the front. I have a set to go on the rear when I pull the airbags and put the RAS system on. I put them on the day before a 2500 mile trip through southern Utah. They improved the ride so much that both my girlfriend and son commented how much nicer the truck rode while off road.

 

Watching the Super Bumps installation video and they say just replace the one...hum I wonder why?

 

Broken motor mounts and bent frames, I did both when my truck was MT (3” lift Fox coilover) running aftermarket bumps. But again on trucks used hard, likely beyond the design limitations of the chassis. My truck is LT and heavily reinforced front and rear now. This is a pic from when I ran one of the popular bumps that dented (red arrow) a very strong LT lower control arm before the front oem bump engaged. IMO this supports the torsional load @Fobroader mentioned. No idea if 4 is the correct choice, never gave it a thought after reinstalling the oem bumps.

Bump stops keep moving parts from hitting stationary parts. In the front, the bump stops keep the lower control arm from hitting your frame. The stock bump stops are small and a very hard dense rubber (I think) its jarring when the LCA hits them. Most of these aftermarket stops have a larger profile but a softer composition so they help soften and slow the LCA so its less of a stop and more a deceleration.

Pretty similar with the rear, your axle moves up and down and the bump stops helps keep it from hitting frame.

 

Accomplished a bit of DIY maintenance today. Rear diff drain n fill, power steering drain n fill, and HVAC blower motor upgrade w/ K&N cabin air filter.


Blower motor upgrade is by far an amazing improvement!

This exactly. The advantage to the Wheelers super bumps is they are a lighter, softer material, that gives more of a progressive slow down rather than the hard rubber factory bumps. Per the instructions for the Wheelers bumps, you retain the front factory bump stops (seen in the back in my photo, photo taken from the back looking forward) so that if you hit a big enough bump, and use up all of the travel of the progressive Wheeler bumps, you still stop the up travel of the suspension before it hammers the frame. These bumps are kind of a step between the factory bumps and a full set of hydraulic bump stops.

Here is the kit I basically pieced together. I bought the fronts second hand from a guy who never installed them, then bought the rear kit to go with my RAS once I pull my air bags off.

 

Its kinda between the 2. You might not touch them every day, but it's not just extreme. Do you ever go over speed bumps or accidentally hit a pothole? Those are 2 common situations where you will likely contact the bump stop.

With these aftermarket ones they really smooth out those situations. Some swear they feel the difference like night and day, others say they kinda tell. Like most truck mods, its in the end user to determine if its worth it but this is not a bad mod to consider.

 

Sorry it took so long to confirm this... But, we've been getting hammered here on the coast this past week, so I figured it would be a good time to update. The last couple of days we've had a ton of rain and wind gusts up to 60mph... So, at this point, I can say w/absolute surety, that the drawers are pretty damn water tight I had no sign of water intrusion after this last week's endeavors.

Just to be fair though, my decked system is sitting under an ArmorFlex tri-fold tonneau cover. So, I'm sure there's a little bit of deflection from that system, but with that being said the way the decked system is engineered and w/the gaskets properly secured, etc. I'm pretty confident that the system would still be pretty darn secure...

 

Painted the sliders for the 4runner and picked up a brand new cvt mt Shasta for the Tundra. Couldn’t pass up the $500 deal!

 

How was the Power Steering drain and fill? Been tossing around the idea of doing this soon as well

Just make sure that the reservoir doesn't go empty while extracting.

Yesterday the truck got an oil change, and I got motivated. Finally swapped my Baja Designs Squadron Sport 2's for my new Diode Dynamics SS3 Max's. I should have done them earlier...



The old lights. The Baja ditch lights, stock LED fog's, TRD Pro LED Headlights, and my DD 40" bumper bar.

And the improved lighting pattern. This also includes the upgrade from the OEM LED fogs to the SS3 Pro's in the fog pocket with their SAE fog pattern. I went with the combo beam on the ditch lights. Seriously should have done this sooner.

 

A certain improvement!

 

I drive to work between 3-4 AM, and I regularly get herds of elk and the occasional kamikaze deer, and I've found that it's easier to prevent hitting them by seeing them sooner than building the front of the truck to take the hit

That doesn't mean something like a RCI or Ironman front bumper isn't in the plans though lol

 

2021 Platinum 4x4. Has been a slow build process but got Bilstein 6112s up front on 1.9 inch setting to level it out and 5160s on the rear. Stock leafs and UCA

Removed front mud flaps
No rubbing or trimming needed.
Tire poke is just enough, see pic.
Very little road noise so far but certainly more compared to the stockers.

For tires, I considered NITTO Recon Grappler and Falken Wildpeak. Both the TOYO OC and NITTOs were lighter than the Falkens. All are great tires.

 

Finally found a good muffler shop to slap my cats on... Truck still sounds great but a lot less drone at 1600-1800 RPM. A lot quieter on startup too.

 

Got the cross member installed for the 38 gallon tank swap

 

Put some gas in it…

 

Most of the fleet cardlocks around here are still mechanical pumps…maybe that’s how they keep the price down?
I pay the same price for ethanol-free 87 at this location as the 10% shit at the exit I take off the freeway, so I’ll take the short detour here.
She was a thirsty beast tonight though.

 

Ok so finally got rid of the chrome and silver trim. Now on to changing the fake wood trim and the peanut butter leather.

 

What head unit is that??
