2.5 Tundra guy here. Got my oil sample results back. What causes all the additive metals to be high?

Dealer did this oil change so I don't know how they took the sample. Wonder if that in any way contributed to the Fuel% being high.

Saw this in another post. Maybe the truck was cold when they did the change:

    - Be sure to sample hot oil that’s been driven on for 10-15 mins. to allow any fuel residual/vapor to evaporate from the oil. (ok to let it cool a bit after driving for safety). Otherwise you can easily get a higher than normal fuel contamination percentage and a lower flashpoint temperature.

Blackstone will tell you that those are all part of the additive pkg that the oil manufacturers add for longevity, protection, and performance. Your Silicon level will drop quickly as the sealants wash out of the motor.

Mine took about three weeks to get back. Metals are high but they don’t seem concerned.
The majority of my trips are indeed short.
There was a bunch of coffee grind-like material but only very fine metal debris at close inspection.
    4/24 build.

Thanks man (hope I didn’t assume your gender there). I want to run this motor for as long as possible before it gets replaced. Might try 10,000km on my current oil. We’ll see.

Just read on one of the forums here that Toyota will offer owners 20 year warranty with unlimited mileage, and during this time if the engine fails then it can be scheduled for replacement as per the recall. Not confirmed anywhere yet but this sounds like a good plan by Toyota if it’s true.

I know this is not a comments thread but I’ve asked if there is one and got no reply. I also know someone else has asked this before with no answer but has anyone had an engine failure after an oil analysis so we can see what elements (if any) were elevated?

That’s a great question. Is there anyone out there that had oil analysis and their engine failed. There should be a trail that leads up to failure and that’s why we do oil analysis.

Got my 3rd oil analysis back today from Speed Diagnostix. High Copper level, said it's more likely from turbo bearing material, to change to higher Moly oil, said to try Toyota (ExxonMobil) oil, but not a fan of ExxonMobil products, so looking at Redline, now for the silicone, I read on this thread (if I remember correctly, Lake Speed had said) it maybe the Toyota Oil Filter, to use Wix Filter instead.

I don't like that copper level at all. You're running the best off the shelf 0w20 available. How many miles on the truck?

4115 miles, probably go with redline, it’s suppose to be top tier oil, suppose to have more moly in it.

Brand of oil is not the issue, hope I'm wrong, btw when you change brands it can throw off reports due to differences in formulation and additive pack. So far so good on mine. Did Blackstone at 14,850 looked good Toyota changed at 5000, 10,000, and 14,850 using factory oil and filter. Are you on the recall list? My production date is 2/23 and so far not on the naughty list.

Not on recall, Lake was thinking the copper could be from the Turbo bearings, 3/21/24 build date, have used Pennzoil Ultra Platinum on 2 of 3 oil changes, 1st was the OEM oil, next 2 were the Pennzoil.
The copper just showed up on this last analysis. Lake Speed was saying to get a higher moly based oil. Silicone has been smaller problem, will probably change to a Wix filter.

2023 non-hybrid with March 2023 build date looking good so far. Bought new and changed the oil at 500, 5.5k, and now 10k. Saw some fine flakes at the 500 change but was expected for break in. We’ll see how 15k looks next year.

Lake tells the truth as best he can...way better than most. That said I wish you luck could be a turbo could be front main bearing but I don't like it at all...at your low mileage oil should be oil.

Agree 100%, just ordered redline oil, going to use it as it’s high in moly, which Lake said to use high moly to see if it helps

I hope it meets Toyota specs. Should you have any problems due to lubrication Toyota is likely to deny a warranty claim is the improper oil is used and for good reason.
