I’m setting up a Teams call (free version, so 60 minutes max) with a demo of the Phoenix Android HU for 2014-2021 Tundra on Friday 11/29/24 at 11am EST. PM me your e-mail address and I’ll send you an invite. Plan is to show the features for about 15-30 minutes, then answer questions to the best of my ability up to the end of the call. Here is a link to the HU so you can see the features before the call.

    https://phoenixautomotiveinc.com/pr...oyota-tundra-2014-2019?variant=44307095584954

Here is the YouTube channel where you can see installation for the Tundra, and several other videos on the features:

    https://youtube.com/@phoenixautomotive4336?feature=shared

I love this HU. I’m on my second one; the first couple of generations had silver trim, then they came out with one in matte black trim, a faster processor, and Android 13, and I “had” to get it .

DISCLAIMER: I am not associated with Phoenix Android/Automotive; this is an UNBIASED overview of the product, and I am not compensated.

@PNW_Husky and @PermaFrostTRD FYI in case y’all are still interested.

There are two versions, one for 2007-2013, the other for 2014-2021. The call will be specifically about the 2014-2021. Pic below. Installation was “super easy (head tilt), barely an inconvenience.”

From your picture, it looks like it covers the ports below the HVAC controls. Does it?

The link I provided is for an even newer model than mine (now I got the upgrade bug  but I'm happy with mine...for now :D). I bought the SC7682 with the max RAM/ROM at that time (can't remember how much). If I were buying now, I'd get the SC7870 12RAM/256ROM.

The website is a bit confusing. They have what looks to be 6 different models that all fit the '14-'21 :annoyed:
One say "New" and the one you linked says "Hot selling" so what's the difference :annoyed:

I emailed them to ask if I can pick up in person. That was I can ask them questions about the differences.

    Their Chinglish is strong...
As far as I can tell, the two listings have the same units. There's a third one that doesn't show [Hot Selling] or [New] that also links to the same basic unit. On any of those pages, you will see the selected "size" is different until you hit the drop down and pick a specific one (Sc7870 12g ram 256g rom Android 13 w/ built-in carplay Android auto) and you'll see they all come out to the same price.

If you are buying, make sure to ALSO use the code BFCM2024 in your cart to get additional discount (my final price was $615.73 for the SC7870/12G/256G unit).

I wish I would have saw this earlier Cthulhu. I've been on the fence about these for last few years... I'll see if they now support a sim card, which is what I really would prefer.

I am planning on kicking the tires here. There are a few quirks about the Alpine that bug me, and I need to pull it out to troubleshoot my backup camera being extremely intermittent. I also can't leave shit alone... so if I'm pulling the whole thing apart, I thought I'd play around with the Pheonix since I've had my eye on them for a long time.

I'll hold onto the Alpine and give the PHX unit a solid trial/shakedown, then make a decision in which one to keep. Someone will end up getting a deal on one or the other.

Can you explain what benefit having a SIM card does? Is it for GPS? Would you need to pay monthly for a SIM card to be used? I'm kind of a noob here when it comes to stereos.

I'd like a sim, so i'm not hotspotting my phone everytime I get in the car. I use youtube music and navigation, size my 2017 doesn't have nav. This should let me know use google maps, and whatever other apps I like when driving. I'm hoping it will also let me use gaia or alltrails. You would have to pay for the device on a monthly plan, but it cannot make calls. So it would be a data plan only. This is what I know of at least.

Ahh okay, that makes sense. So Google maps/GPS doesn't work right out of the box? What about Android Auto? This device would allow me to connect my cell phone to it via Bluetooth and use Android auto for Google Maps GPS, right? I coulda swore I saw a video that said Android Auto doesn't work wirelessly so it would have to be plugged in which is kind of an inconvenience. I'd like for it to just automatically connect. Not sure if that's doable with any stereo. I have seen a few pros and cons to this stereo, mostly pros but the few cons just maybe need some clarification on :monocle:

I kind of do like having physical knobs for air/heat. Going digital is kind of a bummer especially while driving on not such a smooth road. Also, I don't think the air/heat controls are customizable so you'd be stuck with controls on screen that serve no purpose.

The current price is right on point though. Almost hard to pass up. I've had the Kenwood system on my wishlist for quite sometime now but the cost is painful to my wallet.

Would love to see more initial reviews with long term usage updates after from more members on here.

You really don't need Android Auto with this. Think of this as an Android tablet. You can download apps onto it and run the apps off of it.

It would give you a standalone data connection directly in the head unit for anything from google maps/waze to streaming netflix or YouTube without having to hotspot from your phone.

if it supported Verizon I’d be strongly considering adding one.
