Get one of these and stick it on top of the sensor.

Feature I learned with my new Canadian Tundra:
The socialist Canadian government doesn't let me decide if I want my headlights on.... I guess they think we're too dumb up here to decide when to turn the headlights on/off. I'm so glad our government is caring for us in everything we do (sarcasm).

Can't really blame them when you see every second gen driving around with only the front park lights on in the dead of night.

What a dumb take. They made drls mandatory cause idiots kept driving at night or low light conditions with their lights off. They see the dashboard lit up and good enough

Not talking DRLs.........As said in my quote I have no control over keeping my headlights off. Nothing to do with DRL. Hope that helps.

Regardless, why would you ever need the lights off aside from specific usage scenarios?

Auto headlamps are stupid. I see so many vehicles going down the road at night and you can tell they are the using the auto feature because the tail lights aren’t illuminated. If the vehicle is gonna automatically turn headlights on, then turn the taillights on too.

That tells me they're running on DRLs, not auto headlights...

Uhh... what? What auto headlight feature are you talking about? Is this a Canada only thing?

The auto headlight turns all front and back lights on for road safety.

There are always drl on in Canada. The auto function does turn on both fronts and rears once low light conditions are detected, however not all vehicles have it

Right, but the person I quoted stated the auto function would not turn on rears. I'm trying to figure out if they understand how the function works and why they think the rears would not turn on.

Not a Canada thing. Some vehicles taillights don’t come on when the auto headlights function is enabled. I assume the Tundras taillights come on but I haven’t actually checked yet.

Just guessing here: Canada may require that the actual headlamp bulbs be illuminated, but at a lesser wattage; possibly 40W. The amber DRLs that we see on U.S. destination vehicles may not comply with Canadian regulations. This would be when the engine is running with the headlamp switch in either Off or Auto. If in Auto, when the ambient light threshold drops to a particular level, all exterior lamps illuminate to standard brightness.

The derps that we see driving at night with the headlamps only illuminated and not the tail lamps have the switch in the Off position but may believe that everything is okay based on the minimal forward illumination and that the dash lights are backlit at all times as they are in the 2nd Gen Tundras.

Wynnded is correct. Before the era of LED DRL the headlamps were the DRL in Canada. The bulbs were illuminated at a lesser power compared to full on headlights (wattage I am not sure).

I have never heard of nor seen Auto headlamp systems that do not turn on all of the illumination associated (marker lights, tail lights, etc) once the ambient light threshold is reached. Wouldn't be a very good feature if that was the case.

Turn the headlight switch from AUTO to the MARKER LIGHTS then turn your parking brake on and shut your truck off and turn it back on. Headlights will stay off.

Late to the party, but I've figured out a solution.
I unplugged the light sensor, after that the "auto" position basically functions as lights "off". Oc DRL still comes on when driving for a canadian truck but at least the parking brake trick works now.
    Tested on my 2024 tundra

Back in prehistoric times, we used to be able to turn the silly auto headlights/ DRL's off by just clicking the Park Brake on just enough. Always worked for those who were actually considerate enough to turn lights off, while on the ramp, launching or taking up their boat. Everyone else just turned headlights off and used Park Lights....(for one of their intended purposes)

Makes me miss the good ol days when you knew the lights were off because the dash was dark as sin.

That was back before we needed everything done for us. When we couldn't see the dash, WE turned lights on so we could. By doing so, we could also be seen by others!
