Went to installer and they said alarm is compatible but won’t have unlock/disarm function. I would need the oem remote to open doors and compustar remote to disarm. Dealer update firmware diagram for tundra confirms this however speaking with compustar they said it will work just fine with oem remote. Searching I’m finding more negatives, anyone have this installed and works as advertised?

Not sure what the misunderstanding is. It works fine with the OEM remote, so you have to carry two remotes. Is that right? What OEM alarm options are there?

do you have compustar system? The installer said I’d have to use my oem remote to unlock door as usual by pulling handle but unlocking the door won’t disarm the alarm so it would go off once door opened unless I disarm the alarm with compustar alarm…

Find another compustar dealer to get a second opinion. It's possible that the installer doesn't want to screw around with making the alarm work with Tundra as it may be pita and just want to sell you easy standalone alarm option.

If compustar direct says their alarm is compatible with the new Tundra then the installer is probably wrong

"compatible with" does not necessarily mean the compustar system will unlock the doors etc. Can you set the alarm with the doors unlocked?

Well, any alarm can be installed onto any vehicle if it's a standalone and does not unlock the doors or interface with the vehicle in any way.

It's very likely that if compustar says it's compatible, it can indeed unlock doors at the very minimum.

But idk, just my best guess

    I concur..
If a compustar alarm means having 2 remotes then go with a different brand.

It has been 10 years, but when I had my Compustar remote start/alarm installed it's remote replaced my OEM remote.
But I only had to use the compustar remote, the OEM remote has been in a file cabinet for 10 years...

Update, spoke with compustar directly and they confirmed oem remote works with security and everything will work as normal.
Got it installed 12/17 at different installer that said it will be a harder install but that everything will work. First thing installer said when picking it up (which wasn’t mentioned before) was that I am not to use the compustar remote to open the doors as it will deactivate oem remote and I’d have to take it into toyota dealer to get reprogrammed… DroneMobile app doesnt lock/unlock doors only arms/disarms. Annoying bc I take the dogs out and notice my mirrors out so I open doors to lock truck and alarm goes off… tested it with app soon after and sure enough just arms/disarms:/ waiting to hear back from them will update when they do.
Loved this system on two previous cars so hopefully an easy fix…

Wait... So the installer said that everything will work, but what he actually did was install compustar as a standalone alarm system and you have to use Toyota remote to lock unlock and compustar remote to arm disarm?

Sounds like the installer couldn't figure out how to interface compustar with Tundra...

I would be pissed as that's the only reason to get compustar as supposedly it will interface with the new Tundra.

Perhaps try to put both the installer and the compustar support on the phone at the same time to ask wtf! Maybe support will tell him how to program it
