FYI Bennett Toyota of Lebanon Pennsylvania has the Tundra bed step on sale for $200 with free shipping. Just bought one and total cost came to approx $210.

Do not know how long the sale will last.

    Great christmas present to myself!

Still not sure whether the OEM version is worth $100 more than the 'knock-off' from Amazon that sells for $100 delivered (or less if you're lucky and find it on sale). No issues with my 'cheap' unit so far; granted it's not like I am using it every day.

At my age (67) it is risk management to me. If I am stepping down and the step snaps I am in big trouble. Worth $100 for the insurance.

Does it work with the tailgate down?
Can I step from the step to the tailgate?

Step to tailgate is easy; tailgate to step is not as easy......kind of a weird angle. I know that doesn't sound like it should make sense since it's the same motion, but the step from the bed of the truck down to the step is awkward for me and I wouldn't try when it was wet. Just my old bones and being 6'2" and 230lbs - if i were to take a tumble, that's a lot of momentum to break my fall.....

I know what you mean by the angle. I recently took a tumble trying to make it to a thing I had made and broke my foot, and im only 5'10 135 LOL
Need a good step or ladder that works up/down and maybe a bit sideways sometimes.

As an aside, i have seen many of the aftermarket steps and some are the EXACT same as the OEM that I got

We need to make one that goes into the hitch receiver and is telescopic so it can be used with the gate up or down. Why that isn't a thing is beyond me.

I tend to agree, but easier than that. Make the entire hitch an accessory rail if you will........The ends of the actual hitch could be open and allow for the introduction of accessories. That way the leverage points aren't only at the rear of the truck. You could attach a table for a tailgate or something like that......it's been on my mind a lot. I know a lot of people will say it collects water and will be a rust point, etc. but some of the aftermarket hitches are made that way.

I tried to make a camper anchor that went into the sides of the hitch like that and would stick out on either side of the truck, my fab skills didn't let it happen.
It is an awesome idea to have a grill on 1 side of the tailgate and a 12 volt fridge wired to the trailer power on the other and still be able to use the tailgate as a table

Got me pulling out the napkins and doodlin. It's gotta be possible, maybe even marketable
