I scored an 1829 Capped Bust Liberty 50 cent coin today. 89.2% silver and 10.8% copper. "Very Good" condition. A bit tarnished. The rim says "FIFTY CENTS" These are rare in any kind of condition. To put things in perspective.....John Quincy Adam's was the incumbent president. Andrew Jackson was sworn in March 4th! 195 years ago....a kuul piece of history.

Nope. From my source in Ohio. Came in the mail today. Insured. Mine is worth a bit less than $100 since it has been unofficially graded. I bought it for the kuul historical factor. Mint State condition can be over $1000 for 1829. Earlier ones can go well over $10K. Beyond my budget. Ha!

My source is a PCGS certified numismatic dealer. My 1829 isn't officially graded which would raise the value quite a bit if it was. I'd have to send it back and pay a grading certification fee. The coin would be "officially" graded. It would then be sealed in a plastic case with the official grade assigned to it noted above the coin with a PCGS serial number on the front and a hologram on the backside.

Expect it to be over $2150+ easy depending on world gold spot price at the moment. I'm investing around $400+ a month on silver. Easier on my budget. Once I hit enough silver I'll switch to 1/4 troy ounce US Gold Eagles or Canadian Royal Mint Maple's or UK Britannia's. Maybe....
Still buying Wyoming and South Dakota Goldbacks in big quantities. Requires lots of overtime. Ha!

Pinehurst Coin on their eBay thingy is selling silver at a good price. Silver was over 28 a few days ago. I just paid 2.22 over spot, pretty good with free shipping. Gold was over 2400 also, that took a huge jump of over 34 dollars an ounce. I am just now getting silver stock back up after the last 28 an ounce. This time waiting for a bit more before we get rid of it again. :)

Thru Pinehurst Coins just purchased 20 round for 2 over spot. I should have bought three times that!

Gold and silver are on the rise! I got all antsy in the pantsy and almost sold our silver. I had second thoughts, keeping it for awhile. I can’t believe gold is over 2700 an ounce. It’s crazy out there!

Gold and Silver is going down a bit. If a person needs to purchase more now is a good time.

I bought some silver this week. Stocking up! :)

Sounds like you like to buy and sell. It can be pretty fun side gig.

I can only see gold/silver going up long term. I have my own personal goals, but my brother and I both think everyone should have 5-10oz of gold and 300 oz of silver.

Okay, I need some schooling. Explain how and why gold and silver are good investments for future SHTF scenarios.
Retailers won’t want it, you can’t plant it, it’s easily stolen, you can’t eat it, and it’s not a reliable trade good. In a short term catastrophe you could probably still use cash. In a long term scenario you would be better off, I think, with the traditional goods like coffee, sugar, tobacco, whiskey, (and perhaps ammunition).
Stocking up on the things that I would need for survival makes more sense. I can grow and harvest almost everything I need but not flour or dairy products (I assume most cows would be killed for food).
Stocks of beans, rice, and quality seeds make more sense to me.

It's a store of wealth. When/if SHTF ends, you'll be able to recover faster. People with cash that's gone worthless, stocks that don't exist anymore and a digital bank account that has disappeared into the ether will be starting from zero. If you have gold and silver, you still have wealth.

It's also a way to move wealth to escape SHTF. History is full of times when people fled war zones all but empty handed yet were able to buy passage to safety with a few gold coins hidden in their belt or the gold necklace their wife wore. In modern times, consider a place like Venezuela where the economy has collapsed. Their currency is worthless. An ounce of gold is still worth around $2600 USD.

I believe that gold/silver are part of a well rounded prepardness/financial plan, but not the only part. I think the average person should prioritize an emergency fund of 3 - 6 months of expenses, maxed out registered retirment funds and some basic investments. Then they should stock up on long term food storage, tools, ammunition, medical supplies and knowledge before pouring money into gold/silver. However, once that's all squared away then a few hundred bucks a month or whatever you can afford going into precious metals isn't a bad idea at all.
