First off Merry Christmas to all on the forum.
One of the draw backs to my 2005 is not able to judge front and back bumper clearance. I am looking to up grade my radio to a new head unit that allows me to have a camera option. I would like to have three cameras, a dash cam that allows me to record as I am driving with a way to retrieve the footage just in case.

The second and third camera I want to mount on the rear license plate and also one in the front grill for parking purposes. I rarely tow anymore but backing into spaces can be a real pain.

Are there any after market head units that support all three camera options I am looking for all in one or will I need to go with a separate dash camera, and just buy a duel camera capable head unit.

    Any recommendations gratefully welcome.
    Happy Holidays.

I had a Kenwood DMX1057XR installed and added a front camera, which is a GREAT mod.

This head unit has inputs for 4 cameras, but the guy at the stereo shop said they have a lot of problems getting them all to play nice together, and that cameras 3 & 4 can be more trouble than they're worth.

My added front and OEM rear are great and give my no problems.

You could do the Front/Rear then just do a standalone dashcam for recording purposes.

The only one that comes to mind is the Alpine DVR-C320R dual dash camera that can be used/integrated with certain models of their head units:

Beyond that, there might be a way to tie the rear part of a dual dash cam into a head unit with extra camera inputs, but I think it would be tricky to tie in the front feed because most dash cams have a small screen so the signal goes from lens to screen inside the dash cam, whereas the rear feed has an extension cable that you could probably integrate into an RCA camera plug on your dash cam. I know for the new 3rd gen Tundras there's a dash cam add on and I suspect that just like with back up cameras, eventually we'll see most vehicles have a dash camera system from the factory but for now I'd go either the Alpine route or separate head unit and dash cam.

Thank you SD Surfer Really like your co-Pilot and thank you Snert. well I was correct in my original thinking that there had to be a head unit that had 4 cameras but if they don't all play well together in the same sand box, time to look for another play ground. I am going to take your advice and get a stand alone dash camera, found one I liked and put it on my Christmas wish list. When I am ready to get the head unit ill do one with just duel camera's for the purpose of parking. Thanks again for your input just helped confirm things I was thinking about. Merry Christmas to you both and a happy new year.

And a Merry Christmas to you and yours as well!

It's really helpful having both front and rear cams.

There are a number of head units that have 3 or 4 camera inputs, the tricky bit is just trying to integrate a dash cam with a head unit. Other nice thing about having them separate is that it seems like dash camera technology is one of those things that updates overnight and they're constantly getting drastically better, whereas radios are usually good for a long while.
