    Ha!!!

I just found out I can lock my doors (w/mirrors folding) by touching the door handle. I knew I could unlock it by touch. I did it purely by accident when I went to grab the handle. It took me some time to find the correct place to touch.

Of course the keys have to be in your pocket.

I take my four fingertips and touch the top of the handle on the front. The area is circled in the picture below. I need to refine the EXACT area when I have some time. No more fumbling to grab my key fob in my pocket. :taco:

Somebody needs to up with a “Cliff’s Notes” for the 600+ page owner’s manual. All the things you should remember but got lost in legal disclaimers or gave you a partial answer and referred you to another page in the other half of the manual. Then add an addendum for the multimedia system.

It’s sad that Toyota couldn’t put the touch sensors on all doors. I’m too lazy to hit my unlock button twice on my fob lol

This^^^ I usually don't unlock with my fob but just grab the door handle, but it doesn't work on rear doors. WTF.

Long hold the handle and it will unlock all doors. First touch does the driver's door. Continue holding and it will unlock all doors.

Grabbing the passenger door handle will immediately unlock all doors.

If you have access to a Carista type dongle you can change the duration of the touch, time-out before next touch to unlock, as well as which doors unlock with a touch. I have it set to the shortest duration and one touch unlocks all doors.

I don't like all doors unlock unless I need it. You can even set it to unlock all doors when you put in park. I think of the worst case scenario. Trying to get away from someplace or if some unscrupulous character is near your truck, I only want my door to open instead of all doors. I want to control the situation and don't want to have to use my CCW. There is a bunch of paperwork if I have to do that.

I feel this should have been something the dealership should have showed everyone when buying a vehicle. At least my dealer did for my grandfather when he bought his rav4. Showed him how to use keyless entry and exit.

This how I’ve been locking Toyota’s for years now. Never have to touch the key fob outside my house, it goes in my pocket before I leave the house and only comes out when I get back in the house.

Most of the people I talk to (who own Tundras) don't know about the tailgate button in the rear tail light. It is crazy.

I found out that I can lock all doors by touching the front of the front passenger door handle.
Haven’t tried to unlock from the passenger side yet.

Tried the hold method today and totally amazed that I can unlock all 4 now. Guess reading a manual does pay off! Still have to try the lock method.

Yes, that's what I did, I didn't want to give you the satisfaction of knowing I tested the other feature also just to see if you would comment.:boink:

I know about and use the handle touch lock and unlock features. My question is, is it a feature or can I use Carista to automatically lock the vehicle within say 30 seconds after I walk away with the fob in my pocket? Is the fob or the handle touch or the app the only methods to lock the truck?

I don't think that was an option in Carista. You can check their website for a list of stuff you can change.

The only auto-locking setting I’m aware of is to set the time to auto-lock IF the truck has been unlocked and NOT opened. After the set time it will re-lock itself. This protects you if the fob is accidentally pushed, like in your pocket or in the house, and it unlocks. (All Toyo models back to our ‘09 Venza with touch lock handles are like that). ((this time setting doesn’t need Carista. It’s in the vehicle settings menu))

Next feature - many don’t know there’s a 2nd small button next to the tailgate handle to unlock the truck.

One day, I was on the passenger side and needed to lock the truck, so I took a shot and it worked.
I’ll let you know when I’m on the passenger side and need to unlock it.
