Whatever this forum told me to do
    speaking of computers....

our kitchen computer monitor now blinks a black screen every few minutes & comes back in 1 second...like nothing happened.

instead of trying to fix the 7yr old desktop, I need a new desktop.

    what would y'all buy?

The wife uses it to cruise the internet.

I want something that will last another 7 years.

I would build my own desktop with the following specs for a solid, non-performance gaming PC (Quick 5 minute list):

AMD 7600 CPU (Stay away from 13th, 14th gen Intel chips as they have issues with silicone degradation)
Motherboard, get whatever ASUS/GIGABYTE/MSI strikes your fancy. Maybe make sure it has 2 m2 NVME SSD slots in case you want to toss in a second one in the future.
16 gigs ram (B Tier Hardware, something like TeamGroup)
2 TB NVME SSD (Once again TeamGroup or similar tier manufacturer)
Computer case, whatever fits your motherboard, there are some decent value brands that make good cases.
Graphics card - Skip. Use onboard graphics from the CPU, which are quite good these days. Save on power and heat management.
Powersupply, use PC Parts picker to select your components and it should tell you the power draw of your components, select your PSU from there.
CPU Fan if one doesn't come with the CPU. Something around $30ish should be fine. I can't remember brands off the top of my head.

I would hit youtube and check out pcbuilder. He does a boost my build series where he recommends components based on what someone is trying to do.

    https://www.youtube.com/@PCBuilderChannel

I tend to stay away from pre-built computers unless they are laptops. While they work, they do use cheaper components which may make upgrading in the future more difficult/not-worth the investment. The stuff I build myself, are geared around small upgrades around the 5-7 year mark as a refresh to use for another 5 ish years. Usually just a graphics card.

No. dolphins are true narcs. They look all cute and win you over with their charming personality until they get their opportunity. And then it's off to the rape cave with you once your trust is earned.

Muskrats are responsible for destroying the wiring and upholstery in my dad's boat.

He tried to get rid of them and discovered the sights on his dad's old 22 are crooked.

I know you said desktop but I'd get an appropriately priced HP or Dell laptop with a couple usb ports for keyboard and mouse. Takes up less space. ;)

I had no idea. Building computers is something I have done since I was a kid to save money. So it feels like putting Lego’s together.

So yeah, grab a Dell or or a laptop and slap a keyboard or mouse on there and you should be good.

Lenovo is a really good brand to go with these days. You can order direct from their website and they will ship to a local Best Buy. If it was in a kitchen area and for my wife, I’d be looking at their small form factor/mini computers, or a monitor that has the PC built in.

also their Yoga flip 2-in-one laptop/touch pads are really good.

I have built many PCs over the years, but there is no need to do that anymore unless it’s to accommodate specific hardware preference or just for the pleasure of building it.

Small form factor for me for quite a few years was about the size of a cd player. These are decommissioned, one built for my dad’s home theater. Both have TV tuners in them. I will be selling them for bottom dollar to someone who can mess around with them. Just need to get rid of them at this point, they still work fine. Don’t want waste time parting them out. I am still on the tail end of purging/everyone died and left me stuff to deal with mode.

I’ve also tried the smaller form factors, this Beelink brand. They can be velcroed to the back of a TV. But these can be glitchy. Roku TVs are superior at this point. Don’t go with off brands.

This winter sucks. Another day above 40 after snowfall throughout the week. Can the lord and savior Beavis Christ have some mercy upon us and bring back a winter where it doesn't get above 32 again?

Do you have a snow blower? Even if you just use it on the edges after plowing to keep a real nice OCD looking 90° along the edges.
