I have been hearing that the factory Steps (the predator and TRD Cast aluminum) rust out after a year or two. Can you all verify that for me? I live in the Northeast (salt) and am definitely concerned about putting them on my Tundra.

With that being said, send me some pictures of aftermarket running boards/steps that you all swear by or have been happy with on your 3rd Gen Tundras other than what's available from Toyota. Thanks again and pictures are definitely appreciated.

I have the predator steps 2 plus years and no noticable rust/holding up fine. I don't really like the steps but haven't found a slider or running board that fits a crewmax long bed fender to fender.20240826_145708.jpg

Are you saying the TRD rusted out? Aluminum?

I have them and love em. They have very nice texture for grip, up and out but fully functional.

I would focus more on undercarriages washing much more often in your location. The entire truck will rust away quickly.

I have the TRD steps and they are starting to flake the coating underneath after 2 year, I use wand wash and automatic wash.

I have the TRD running boards. Aluminum and rusting??? I call BS; corrode, maybe [road salt, etc]. Now, maybe the coating is coming off however I have never detected that on mine! Two years later , over 60k, and they still look great.

Personally, these are the best looking OEM ones IMO.

Once they peel enough I will take them off and get line-X done but I’m sure it’s some years away from that.

Several options and many recommendations. Most are in love with Go Rhinno. Like a deep passion by so many Tundra owners it's recommended all the time. Great product however not if you're in Canada with snow.

Rough Country BA2's are well liked though not aluminum. The HD2's are aluminum but ugly.

Raptor 5" or 6" in textured aluminum are a great option

I almost pulled the trigger on the Raptor's and glad I noticed a reference to this Canadian aluminum option. Purchased this morning.

When installed I am going to make a detailed post with a lot of pictures. I found

I bought Westin steps and had them installed in 2020 shortly after I bought my truck, and I started noticing rust spots in 2023! Point being the non factory ones don't seem to be much better!!

I'm liking the Rough Country HD2 steps. They've been great through the winter weather. I can get my full boot on the step without slipping or kicking the rocker panels. They stick out a long way but they're as functional as running boards can be. On a real slushy day they can get a little snow buildup but it's pretty easy to sweep it off.

I have these. Only thing I dislike is it's almost impossible to clean the lower part of the truck that is behind the running board.
