Thoughts if v8 will return within 4 years? With new administration do you think toyota will return the v8?

No. My bet is the only "Toyota" that will ever have a V8 again in the US is maybe a Lexus car.

NO! The tree huggers/save the seals would never allow it.

Most OEMs are in the final versions of ICE engines.

More likely V8 or V6s disappear that appear

    Lots of stuff!
Quad turbo inline 4 cylinder with hybrid option and dual fuel with hydrogen and gas... Since we are throwing guesses out. :)

Probably would get about the same fuel economy as the V8.

If it does hope it is twin turbo and around 600 HP and gets 25/20 mpg.

Look back 15 years ago and see how vehicles have radically changed in that period of time…
Now try to look forward 15 years into the future. I think the radical change just technology wise is something we can’t even imagine

Yep, they effectively banned diesels in RV’s starting this year. And regular gas engines are out in 2035 I believe. Now that is for sale as a new unit.

No, because it can't compete with the domestic trucks with out a complete redesign and they don't sell enough tundras to make that worth the effort.

All modern 1/2 ton trucks have to meet the same emissions standards. All 3 domestics + Nissan have V8s that do it with ease. Toyota lacks the market share to offer two motors and the 5.7/6 speed can't compete with more modern offerings.

FWIW I think they should have modernized the 5.7 a little so it sucked less fuel and bolted a 10 speed automatic to it for a couple of years and then brought out the turbo V6. That way they could offer a far less outdated truck and still have time to develop the new (although it's already been out in Lexus for a few years) motor.

Toyota CEO says Hydrogen. He plans to blanket the USA with filling stations like Tesla is doing with charge stations. He wants to eliminate batteries and the hazardous waste they create.

If the Huggers/save the Seals oppose it in the public opinion.....they wouldn't do it. We now live in a world of Public Opinion, no matter the manufacturer

lol people still trying to pet cemetary this dead horse. get over it, it wont come back.

carb and cafe have pretty much killed this horse and its only getting worse as more states take the carb route instead of the cafe route

One hope is that the new administration tells auto makers so long as they are compliant with federal emissions standards, CARB can’t refuse to allow federally compliant vehicles to be registered in California if they want any federal transportation funds.

It had a V8 and sales were dying. It badly needed a new platform and got one. Sales are increasing. Why would they go backwards? It's about sales, not pleasing dead enders.

that just means carb states will impose a higher fee/tax on those not meeting carb standards to register

    Nope.

People tried to daydream similiar things were going to happen 8 years ago and if I remember correctly GM and Ford said no way. By the time they get around to retooling and sending something new to the dealerships he won't be president anymore and the rules change.

I think it's possible that the regulatory environment could relax enough to make a V8 compliant, but Tundra sales have increased since they gave the trucks a facelift. The consumer has told Toyota that they like the new platform, and Toyota seems to let sales guide their decisions (see Land Cruiser).

In contrast, 2.5 Gen Tundras & 200 series Land Cruisers are holding their value extremely well. If Toyota has any mechanism of how well those vehicles sell a 2nd, 3rd, 4th time, etc...then maybe it gets their attention. I think this scenario is unlikely.

the best options right now are Hybrid vehicles. The wife new CRV Hybrid makes over 200 hp and has front and rear motors geared towards fuel economy. It normally returns 36-42 mpg regularly. Toyota is doing some hydrogen experiments along with Honda but they have not reached the levels that they want yet. Toyota is developing solid state batteries which eliminates the residual charging effects and will last longer. Hence, why Hybrid systems are so popular now is due to the fact that they maximize efficient charging while maintaining longevity. Not to mention my Hybrid Tundra which will do anything and everything the v8 does but 10 times better.

One thing that Mr. Billy BOB and his make-believe world forgets to tell you is that those windmills are not paid for by the gas companies. They received carbon credits to put them up, so they are pumping their precious oil out of the ground FREE of charge all the while making huge profits. He is correct it does take a lot of infrastructure and resources to put them in, but they do so at the behest of the government. I guarantee you that the oil companies had no issue taking the hand-outs then getting favorable legislation that allows to keep pumping.
