Had to lemon law my 2022 tundra platinum for this issue. Now my 2024 Tundra Platinum doing the same thing. Anybody else?

sometimes when you start the truck on an incline up or down, the fuel gauge will default to full, even though the tank may only have half a tank of gas and will not reset until you go and fill the tank back up at the gas station. There is a sequence of button pushes that you can do with the odometer and the start engine button that restores it back to normal.
Toyota had aTSB for the 2022-2023 but it didn’t work. Nothing for the 2024s.
About 3 weeks ago they replaced my dashboard. But that didn’t work.

waiting for dealership to let me know what they want to try next.

since it will reset after the button sequences, I gotta believe it’s a software sensing issue.

But for now I have to use my odometer to guess how much gas I have in the truck.
    Thanks Scott

Welcome back to the faulty gas gauge club! TSB slowed mine ('23) down from a couple of times a tank to once a tank. It was only doing it with 3/4 of a tank at first, then progressed to didn't matter how much was in the tank.

I've had it happen once on my '24. I'm sure it was when launching boat on ramp. I've launched many times with just the one problem. I'm sure it can and will happen again which I don't love. There is a fix through button presses, so I agree it is software.

Well after 3 years it should have been fixed. Not a complicated system. may have to do lemon law again. Was easy process.

Have a 24 SR5 and my driveway has a slight incline. Has been doing this since brand new. Sometime it even does multiple times on the same tank. Dealer claims to know nothing and insists nothing is wrong although they reset the gauge every time I bring it back. I showed them the 22 tab and they said that doesn’t apply to my truck even though they follow the steps in it to reset the gauge. Engaged Toyota corporate who had a field tech look at it. No resolution either. Now I’ve been told to hang tight they have to research it and that it’s most likely software related. Odd they can’t figure this out since it seems to date back to 2022. Overall I love the truck but it’s also very frustrating. I’d be interested to know if anyone in NY has tried to lemon law this?

My truck has done this twice in the past couple months. I called the local dealer to request a service appt to have it looked at. The kind lady booking my appointment was shocked about the problem and said that would stress her out to no end! :)

Don’t do that convoluted button push sequence. When you come to a stop, turn off the engine while still in drive. Then wait several seconds and you will see the gauge drop back to normal. Works for me every single time except the one time I did it while on a step incline.

At least once a month for 15 mos now (‘23). Always at 3/4 full parked on any incline/decline. *Curious, we know '22 thru '24 are affected, how about the new ‘25s Anyone?

This has been happening to me recently a few times. So I, like most of you I bet, keep good tabs on your fuel levels. We were recently in the mountains camping, and I had topped off the tank so we would be set for the trip. Had about 7/8 of a tank when it reset to full. This was such a small variance I could see how it could have been missed. Also we were in the backcountry a good deal, and knowing your fuel levels is very important on a situation like that. There seem to be 2 ways to reset it, but there really needs to be a permanent fix.

My 2023 SR5 CM (2022 build date) started doing this a few weeks ago and today as been stuck on full today even though I have a 3/4 or less tank of fuel. Have a service appointment on the 18th to investigate.

Did you do the simple reset? Stop on a level surface still in Drive and push the start button once. Wait and watch your oil guage reset followed by the fuel gauge. (about 10 secs) Shift to Park, restart and drive away.

Didn't do the reset yet. I was going to leave it the way it is until I take it in so that the service tech can see it first hand.

Probably smart. I have several issues with my DIC not working correctly, and have taken photos of the problem. If Toyota can't "reproduce" it while it's in the shop for 90 minutes then it must be working correctly. The service tech doesn't care about my photos as proof, even though photographic evidence is used in a court of law to convict people!

I have tried and they tell me if they can't replicate it, they won't do anything about it. My local dealer is one of the least helpful dealerships I have ever worked with.

I had the opportunity to talk to a lead tech at my dealership today at length about several issues with my tundra while he was collecting data for TAS regarding throttle lag. According to him, the fuel gauge issue is a software issue (no surprise there) where the fuel level is somehow linked to the DTE and changes position based how the truck is driven as opposed the fuel level being linked only the fuel level in the tank (this is assuming I understood what he was saying). Regardless, he stressed Toyota was well aware of this issue and is working on a fix for it or at least trying to figure out a way to make it more obvious what they are trying to do.

I have been dealing with the gas gauge issue since the first week in May of 2023. Took it in about 4 times and just gave up. Starting to push again with my dealer's service center since FL lemon law is for 24 months. It is nuts that the most basic of systems, a gas gauge is messed up.
Guess I am spinning my wheels and not in a good way.

Same since 7/23. It’s an absolute shame we have to live with this on a $60K+ vehicle. If I didnt love all the rest of it so much the answer would be to sell it. I shut off in Drive all the time to avoid the auto re-start so I just let the gauge reset then.

I've had mine since 4/22 and it still does it. Every time I take it to the dealer; they can't replicate the problem. I've just gotten used it at this point.

Do you have the Hybrid? Does your fuel door lock? only Hybrid has the locking fuel door, and your resets sounds exactly like what happens when Hybrid owners press the fuel door release button and begin fueling. I assume you all have the TFT display if you have a Limited or up.

What style gas gauge do you have if you are having the problem? My Limited has a needle gauge. I am wondering if folks with the digital display have the issue also. This picture is the last time it went from just under 3/4 to full. I always reset my trip A when I fill up for a reference, had 166 miles when it tripped to full. DTE jumps to 400+ once I start to drive. 20250111_175900.jpg
Went in again today 25k service and gas gauge, tech reset it and told me I need to ensure I turn the truck off all the way when fueling.
I contacted Toyota Brand Engagement Center, uploaded the two letters I have mailed to Toyota USA. The rep called me today and said nothing other than they are working on it. I am perplexed, happy with the truck but with my driveway the gas gauge trips to full several times a month.

Mine is digital and I noticed it happening a few months after I bought it (April ‘23). They, at least, acknowledge it is happening now and have been told the standard “they’re working on it” (for the last year around the elephant in the room).

Thanks for reporting the issue to corporate. I have the same issue with my 23 limited off road. I don't have the digital cluster since it was only offered on the hybrid models for the 22-23 limited models. I noticed this issue the first week I had the truck with no support from the dealership. I hope they were not giving you a line of BS to pacify you and really have a team investigating the issue.

I park on an incline have the digital cluster and have not had an issue with it. I do have my refill light does not come on till way low on gas like 10 miles to empty or something. I rarely if ever see it, and I never shut the truck off at refuel time. It is a hyrbid, it shuts the engine off once warmed anyway.
