My in-laws have a JD 2240 that I mow with right now, so that's not an issue.

The FEL JD is a 2355.

I like the idea of a heated cab in a Skid steer during winter but you're right, an open cab tractor is really nice to jump in and out of.

Also, I'm 6'7". I might not even fit in a SS

From what I have learned from these guys I tagged is you will most likely get a problem child skid steer.

Recently in the HD pm I have going I asked about skid steers and I did get more info than I could process.

Skid steers are heavy and eventually it has to be moved. Remember that.

Skids are tight...and you are 6'7".

Skids are spendy. I didn't see even a ratted out one in your price range. IMG_6639.png IMG_6638.png

I would probably be looking at a tractor.

What kind of size are you looking for power wise?

Here is my neighbors 37 hp tractor. IMG_6464.jpg

Size comparison with my 25hp tractor. IMG_4882.jpg IMG_9194.jpg

I should have purchased an L4701.

Want to buy a 25 hp tractor?

    Good point there
In that price point, I didn't think about inheriting someone else's problems.

I like that 25hp range for emissions and fuel economy. I wouldn't be hauling couch size boulders like you ;)

Appreciate it but I'm still a year or two out from buying.
I'm forcing myself to pay cash.
I'm just collecting info and trying to educate myself. :fistbump:

Clearing some snow with the 3000. Got stuck at one point and had to have a neighbor pull me out. His tractor slid trying to pull me up a hill and the chain shifted and crumpled the bottom of the front body work. Just after I straightened it out and painted it a few months ago of course. So will have to repair that in the spring and fab a bumper with a proper recovery point. Oh well

Thanks man, I appreciate it. I've put in a ridiculous amount of time restoring the front half.

Oh yeah its on the list. Those are the original tires too. They're dry rotted and bald but somehow still hold fluid. Once its warmer the plan is to tackle the back half of the tractor for restoration which will include new brakes, tires, etc.

I should have ran chains for this weather and I probably would have avoided getting stuck and subsequently damaging things.

I drove down the road yesterday to borrow my neighbors box blade, and I got to see his Kubota up close... Beautiful machines!

I have the best one on the market, my other neighbors lol.

I was shopping for a Kubota when I met my neighbor. Told him I was in the market and he offered me unrestricted access to his. Rumor has it, one day it will be mine but I am not putting any eggs in that basket.

So there is the back story, but the one I am using quite frequently right now clearing debris for my new barn is a Bad Boy 4025. Collectively, we have the bucket, brush hog, clip on forks, and a rear quick release setup. The community shares the box blade. I will be getting a couple more attachments as the jobs continue to progress...

I love the arrangement, especially right now. I couldnt imagine another payment on top of everything going on around here. Plus he will be storing it in my barn so he is eager to help move all these trees.... It has been a busy couple of weeks:

Ended up with a small tractor when a customer that owed about three grand decided not to pay.

Will probably sell it this coming spring. May buy a Branson 2400H with BL100 loader from another client and use that for some loading, large area mowing, snow plowing / snow blowing, digging water lines...that's the thinking for it anyway.....of course I'll have to buy all those attachments!

The snow has been falling where I live and I have been struggling using the bucket on my JD 4110 to plow with. I saw a guy on Youtube add some wood boards to the side of the bucket to make more of a snow pusher and thought darn that is redneck, maybe I should try it. Total cost was free as I had the wood and some clamps and wow does it work good, so much more efficient. No need to buy another attachment now.

Good idea, I was trying to think of a way to deflect the snow off both sides. Like something on the outside of loader to deflect it away.20250107_121910.jpg
I currently just use a piece of PVC pipe over the blade so I don't destroy my driveway.20250108_142612.jpg

My parents still have their John Deere 2240 that they bought brand new back in 1981! I learned how to drive (more accurate i was forced to learn) how to drive that thing back when i was about 9 years old. It was just about impossible for me to reach the clutch pedal. I did master how to back up trailers with that tractor by the time i was about 12. My dad is a bit too old to drive is anymore (stroke and dementia), but i still use it quite a bit. Mostly i use it now to mow the field with the 8’ flail mower. That or pushing around my smashed up 1st gen tundra after i removed the engine and transmission.

    Awesome!
They are great tractors, almost bulletproof.
    I think ours is a late 70's.
It's got the side exit exhaust, better for orchard trees around here.

    great ideas guys!

I put some pics in the home improvement thread...I think. Hell I can't remember. Did something similar with my 7' blade and use welded on sides as a snow pusher.

The PVC pipe idea is pretty smart. I like it!

That pvc pipe is pretty slick, might have to try that too! Did you rip it with a table saw?

I actually just used a Sawzall. But a table saw would be easier. You'll have to rip it twice to make about a 1/4" slice, that way it'll fit over the blade without breaking. I just tried one cut but it broke as I was installing it. PVC lasted about 3 hours of scraping, then had to replace it. It's so cheap, no big deal. I use an inch & a half pipe.
