Am I allowed to rant about Facebook Marketplace in here?

I just recently got into Marketplace in the last year. So far it's been a really good money making experience for me buying and selling stuff. When selling, I never invite people to my house, I'll always meet them in a public parking lot where there are people and/or cameras. I've bought lots of things from people giving me their home address and I think to myself, that's brave. Not that they should worry about me but definitely not something I'd do.

Everything I list for sale on there I also list it on OfferUp. I like OfferUp because it has a system where you can rate your experience about the other party so you can feel confident buying/selling from a trusted person.

I do get a lot of the "Hi is this still available?" messages. I do my best to immediately reply with an answer to keep the interaction alive. Even with some ridiculously low ball offers, I'll kindly reply immediately and sometimes have made the sale.

Can't you rate the other person on Marketplace too?

G took the ad down from Marketplace the day after the test drive. No way to rate him.

I'd rate him pretty low: he made unsolicited promises he later broke. That's bad....but what would you expect from someone that tells you how honest and trustworthy they are? Next time someone tells me that I am walking away.

I sold a few things via a local trading paper that sadly went out of business in 2023 after a 50 year run. Most were too large to move but when people came, they were not invited into the house and I kept garage doors down. You definitely don't need your house robbed at a later date! LOL

We aren't in a hurry, don't need a dump truck before summer and only then so we can modify it for a job in fall. His was decent but still needed a visit to the heavy truck repair shop and the length of frame was a little short.

Yeah, that's a red flag. People who are actually honest don't feel the need to mention it.

G made that assertion literally every time we talked.

Next time I run into that, I will not make mental excuses for the offender. I will walk. Lessons learned cheaply---thank you Lord! :amen:

Messaged a guy last night.....couple of things.

1). Truck not in advertised location and ad description did not disclose that.

2). Truck not in seller's possession and he couldn't answer basic questions like "length of bed?" since he didn't have it. "Come look at it" was the reply. (Ignoring the fact we are in winter, lots of snow, very, very cold......ya, I'll be right over).

3). Ad says "no significant problems." Turns out the truck won't start! I asked "is that not a 'significant problem' to you?" Seller replied that FB would not allow him to post that it would not start...maybe that's true as far as selectable heading options but his ad sure could have mentioned it.

No way such people are serious about making a sell.
