Transmission Cooler Bracket - Hayden 679

I've designed a transmission cooler bracket for the 2019 - 2021 trucks that don't have a transmission cooler from the factory. This is a budget friendly way to piece together your own kit. This mourning bracket utilizes already existing holes/threads.

A PDF below contains the part numbers for the other parts needed as well as installations tips. I ordered my OEM parts from one of the online dealers and was able to get a discounted price and free shipping at the time of my purchase. They are also available and eBay and other places online. I have seen sellers on eBay that have the thermostat, inlet/outlet hoses, and hardliners bundled together in one listing for a good price.

The bracket uses the Hayden 679 transmission cooler which doesn't require any extra fittings for the 3/8" hose to connect. I've pieced together a stainless steel hardware kit to go along with the bracket.

Included:
-Custom plasma cut mounting bracket made from 12ga steel for Hayden 679 transmission cooler powder coated black.

-Stainless Steel hardware kit with necessary hardware to mount the bracket to the truck, mount the cooler to the bracket, and hardware for horn relocation.

-(2) Rubber grommets for protecting the hose that connects the cooler to the OEM Toyota hardlines. Requires a 1 ¼" hole to be drilled in the passenger side radiator wind deflector. I used a step drill bit for this, I’m sure a hole saw would work as well.

Cost:

$110 for a mounting bracket with a stainless steel hardware kit shipped.

Hayden 689

A few members have reached out stating they are currently using a Hayden 689 and asked if the bracket would work. The bolt patterns are the same for both coolers as they are the same with the exception of the outlet fittings. The bracket needed notched in the left side corners some for the wrench flats of the fittings when using 689. I reworked the CAD file and had some plasma cut/powdercoated. Below is the bracket with the notches.

If you do choose to use the 689 bracket, I would suggest using -6AN (9/16-18 female) to 3/8” (-6AN) hose end fittings. A 90 degree for the top port and 60 degree for the bottom port. I can buy these bulk and include an extra $20 if there is interest or you can source them yourselves. The powder coated bracket and stainless steel hardware kit shipped is $110, just send me a PM and I will get your information.

I have a batch of brackets back from the powder coater. The cost to powder coat was less then his initial quote so I reduced the price to reflect that.

 

Just got mine today, definitely a well crafted piece of kit that came well packaged.

I don’t have any more brackets with a blemished finish at this time.

 

I found an additional photo and uploaded it to show hose placement. Someone else may experiment and find a better option, this is just one option.

I’m down to a few brackets with some light scuff marks. I had the fab shop cut one more batch, they are currently getting powder coated. Unless the demand is high, this maybe the last batch. Once I get them back and listed I’ll update the thread for those that wanted one.

 

Received mine, very nice part and glad I do not have to go find all the screws, also glad I got the powder coated one.

 

The powder coat shop did a nice job. Now that I established a good power coat business I can see me getting various things done for better longevity.

I’m waiting for a Hayden 689 cooler to arrive this week. If the mounting holes are the same as the 679, which I believe they will be given the coolers are the same size then this will give an option to use the 689 cooler and get 90 or 45 degree fittings like below for straighter lines.

I think most would rather stick with the 679 given the 3/8” barbs are on the cooler already and you don’t have to buy the two extra fittings. Just another option is all. Once I verify fitment on the bracket I’ll update the thread.

 

The Hayden 689 does share the same bolt mounting holes as the 679, it bolts onto the bracket I made. The one caveat is that the 689 uses -6an fittings to thread onto the cooler and the wrench flats on the fittings provided has to be flat and parallel to the bracket for it to fit without making contact. With the variety of fittings manufacturers out there, it’s hard to say if all fittings brands would fit without interference.

If I made another batch of brackets I can change the CAD file to have the small area of interference cutout. The area of interference is about 1/8”.

If anyone wants to purchase a raw finished bracket and use a Dremel or like item to clearance the bracket for the fittings let me know.

Overall, the 689 allows for angled fittings to be used for a straighter run with the hose. It does come with (2) straight fittings from Hayden. If you wanted angled you’d need to buy those separately.

The 679 already has the correct 3/8” hose barbs and just requires some turns in the 3/8” rubber hose. Both work fine, just personal preference.

 

What did you do to the tab next to the upper bolt that fixes the horn? I blew a hole with plasma in my DIY bracket, otherwise the bracket does not sit flush.

If you asking about the top mounting bolt, I use a spacer between the bracket and the truck so it’s straight.

For anyone wanting to save a few dollars and get a raw steel bracket to paint or powdercoat on their own send me a message.

I’ve started taking my measurements from the Hayden 689 and the fitting clearance issue mentioned above and working on the CAD file. I should have one of them cut and in my hands in a few weeks. If anyone wants to use the 689 cooler let me know and I can keep you posted on the progress. I’m also working on getting a good supplier for the AN fittings require.

Hayden 679 cooler and installed it about a year and a half ago. I did make my own custom brackets that worked well but this bracket is top notch.

Looks great! I’ve spent the extra money on the stainless hardware and spacer. I’ve made sure to used good quality components and not the cheapest.

I hope you found the installation to be quick and painless. Let me know if I need to make anything more clear in the installations tips.

I do have a batch of brackets at powder coat for the Hayden 689 (will also fit the 679). Once I get those back and the required AN fittings I will offer those.

I think the bracket and Hayden cooler combo works well and surpasses the transmission cooling capabilities of the earlier years with OEM coolers. Great way to get it done for much less than some other options, especially if you buy the OEM parts in a bundle from one of the eBay sellers.
