You gotta love this time of year. Supermarket and employer parking lots are so covered in salt, they’re completely white and there isn’t a spec of snow on the ground. Driving down I-95, I could roll my window down and inhale a mouthful of salt dust as vehicles fly by.

Must’ve caught Toyota by surprise that our trucks would rust out so quickly anywhere north of the Mason-Dixie line. I don’t think anyone who worked on its original design lived in the cold weather.

I've kept mine parked for the most part since they brined the roads down in GA until it all wears off in the rain. I'm not trying to risk it for the biscuit.

One of my stashed away someday i'll finish this projects is a 1971 Triumph spitfire. Its setup with a 12a rotary and 5 speed. The chassis is 100% complete after being soda blasted, painted, and reassembled with 100% new hardware bushings etc. The body also got soda blasted, rust repair (although im suspect of my quality of work ~15 years ago), and a coat of primer. I really should drag that thing out and finish it.

My old man still makes comments about the 2k primer I sprayed on his garage floor

No, that would be pounding a 3/8” socket onto a 10mm bolt head to make it fit.

    Dude. What an awesome project!

Get that thing running, trust me. There is nothing better than having an old euro sports car as a daily driver. I have a Fiat 124, which I drive every single day during the summer. Unbelievable amounts of fun, even around town. Plus it’s just cool as hell. What do you have left to finish on the triumph?

Thats a beauty of a car!

The spitfire really just needs bodywork and paint, refresh the rotary, wiring, interior. I bet it could be driving with about 30 days of work. I do want an around town commuter...

I'll snap a pic later of how she sits.

I almost bought a spitfire a few years ago, but something about the rear suspension scared me away. Are they swing axles?

Its a transverse leaf spring :eek2:

It was never going to be the hoonmachine that I wanted without doing something like Miata rear suspension/diff. These days I would be happy with just a nice around town driver.

It's super strange, I suddenly can't find this stuff anywhere locally. Lots of others (the habanero buffalo or whatever is great), but not the truffle. Sucks, we were really enjoying it.

    Hmmm. Bad news.

My Lexus LS430 has had the windshield replaced at some point- and it’s had a very slight rainwater leak the whole time we’ve owned it. Usually when it really, really rains, the A-pillar headliner gets just a bit damp.

My brother called me today and told me that water was nearly pouring in, through the headliner, through the A pillar, through the dome light, everywhere. It’s definitely the windshield that’s leaking, and it’s rusty too.

I sense body work in my not-very-distant future. Shoot.

my opel had a transverse leaf up front. Mightve been a tr6, but when i saw how the camber was affected by suspension travel i got worried about snap oversteer on some of my motorcycle roads.
