2014 tundra 1794 edition 4wd or 2016 tundra 1794 edition with 2wd both mileage is around 140k need help and why? The price difference is $1k don’t necessarily care about 4wd I live in Knoxville TN (may get snow once or twice a year and I think the 16 cosmetically looks better) not looking to sell only keep

Resale value is worse on 2WD.

And 4WD is VERY nice to have when all of a sudden you need it.

Depends where you live and what you do. No information on how you’ll use a tool means no good advice on which to get.

    I’d wait for a 2016-2017 4WD with a bed, personally.

Are maintenance records the same or close?
For basically the same truck with similar mileage, I'd go the 2014 4x4 unless it just looked way more used (assuming similar maintenance)

You may not need 4x4, but the next guy might it when you sell.

    Get the 4x4.

The 2014 will definitely have a 26 gallon gas tank. The 2016 will likely have the 38 gallon tank.

4WD is not just about snow. 2WD truck is virtually worthless to me.

The prerunner toyotas with locking difs are pretty interesting as that can often negate the lack of 4wd in light duty. It sucks to carry around 300-400lbs of stuff and the hit on mpg, but yeah generally would always pick 4wd with a truck and body on frame suv (fwd suvs get a pass for max mpg/on road driving). Due to the lack of rear weight Ive gotten my Tundras stuck in rwd mode many times from just a single wheels lack of traction, usually the back right rear tire off the pavement (some wet grass can get you stuck lol). Then you’re praying for atrac to brake you into traction haha.

No sense in paying a 4x4 premium if you aren't going to use it. All it will get you is a lower payload rating and worse fuel economy.

Now that we have that out of the way - let the OP pick based on how he will use the truck, not how a complete stranger uses one.

Both of my last 2 Tundras have been 2WD.
Never had an issue even driving in snow and ice on the rare occasions it comes about..
2WD is less to maintain, less to go wrong.

I did fine in this with the 2005 2WD DC.

Fine in this with the 2014 2WD DC.

Before the Tundras I had a 4WD 4-Runner that I rarely put in 4WD other than to keep it lubricated.
It would more depend on maintenance and carfax reports for me.

Get whichever feels better to you from your research and for your needs.
If you feel you don't need a 2WD, don't be pressured by the purists..

    Welcome to the forum..

You should test drive both & see if one feels better to you. If you don't care for 4WD (which I do think is nice to have when you need it) then just drive them both & see if you like one better.

4wd comes in handy at boat ramps if you ever are inclined to get a party barge

4WD all day long. Every 2WD vehicle I've had, I've gotten stuck at one point in time. Our Sequoia is great, but I've gotten it stuck twice and wish I would have held out on a 4WD. Never got our 4WD Tundra stuck.

I'd get the 4x4 but, if you don't need it, 2016 is definitely the sweet spot for these trucks.

Would never buy a 2wd truck. It is so helpful when you need it and 2wd is a deal killer for many when it comes time to sell.
No benefit going with 2wd, generally you wont save much if anything at purchase. No real difference in MPG or operating costs either.

Which one has better maintenance records? Or which is better condition? Since you said that you don't need 4wd, then get the 2016 if it's better condition and has good maintenance.
