So you’re planning on Napa Dex3 but looks like valvoline is also an option

Valvoline was a few bucks more and believe 2 types. Tne blue bottle valvoline was non-synthetic with the additives. I'll go with valvoline or Napa dex3. I just grabbed the bottle to ask. I didn't ask if the Napa formula was different from the valvoline dex3.

I guess WAT advocating for thicker fluid for higher power applications is another hole in the argument many make of needing the ATF at a specific temperature range (hotter) to make it the proper viscosity (thinner) coming from experts in transmissions.

in all fairness, WAT is saying thicker is better specifically to maximize the pressure on the clutches, which will likely be somewhat noticeable in the shifts, but also likely to be accepted by those of us with power adders. we recognize there is a trade off for the performance gain. WS seems to work fine for the other vendors and factory, but maybe the difference is the market and user expectations? i mean, we can live with firmer shifts, right? it's not like we're regearing to 5.29s and wanting 4.30 levels of quiet. :stirthepot:

How do you plan to swap it all over to Dex3?
Drain pan, refill and pump out of cooler lines?

I usually do 13 quarts but I'm wasting 3 to clear out the TC with a full drain. System holds about 11 quarts.

I literally used this one, and frankly it’s not even a lie lol.

All true. Swapping out to Dex3 and doing annual changes is a bridge too far for me personally. I’m already hoping I don’t have the feeling of having ruined my driving experience after some of these more solid/less cushy mods. Solid motor mounts, 5.29s (noise TBD), extreme valve body, midpipes…. I’ve definitely forfeited plushness for brutality across the board.

I burned through 12 qts when I was purging my system a few summers ago. That got fresh, clear fluid through the TC and the cooler, plus the final fill. With the 3.5qts extra, this is 6'ish gallons total. Johnny recommended driving a bit and then doing a drain/fill after the purge/flush.

I'd be curious if the annual service interval is actually needed. Older vehicles etc running dex3 was not like that.

Was just going to mention the additional drain after switching. But not sure if he knows we do full drains. But then again safe to ensure your not crossing streams...

Never state numbers from the bank in dollars, but simply suggest "it's only x8 tanks of gas" (= actual tanks of fuel / 3.33) and see how that works...at least, this is how I'm going to brave the first try! Everything I do that I think is an allotted amount of time, takes x3.33 more time than my cursory estimate!

The amount of eye rolling across my wife and daughters is deafening! Older daughter wants the truck. Wife and youngest despise everything about it and think it's obnoxious. They maybe aren't completely wrong. lol

If not for me believing the 2nd gen tundra is one of the most durable and reliable trucks ever made and the last of the good ones free of intrusive technology I don’t want, I’d have sold it already. It’s like I really should have an HD truck and then the tundra can be the F around for fun truck… but then wouldn’t I be better off selling it for a Camaro or something to pair with an HD truck? The tundra doesn’t really make sense for me anymore but I can’t see getting rid of it because I love the platform, and I have sunk a small fortune into making it the ultimate tundra (for me) and now I keep buying parts for it digging a deeper hole.

Any time I start thinking my truck is "too much", I take my Civic for spin and I am quickly reminded how boring and tedious and awful stock vehicles are.

Lol, wife doesn't even know I installed a supercharger. It's nice to have separate bank accounts and 1 shared for monthly expenses and savings.

I learned my lesson after sinking another 40K into my brand new 40K STI and then blowing up on a track day. Everytime I spent money on that car, I would tell her that it was needed to keep from blowing up or make it safer on the track. LOL

Now I just keep it to myself...

'Honey, it's merely the cost of 8 or 9 tanks of Tundra gas' :D

or if we convert that even further... 'Babe, it's litterally the equivalent of 1-month of fuel for my truck'

    :hattip:
