I am considering installing OEM power running boards and bed step on my 2022 Tundra. Has anyone done this? I would like to know how difficult or easy it was to do.

A great question, I upgraded my 23 from base to TRD and they were still a little high up and tucked in to be useful and safe for slippery conditions, now have the power and they are great, instill confidence stepping on, pivot, up or down in or out have to be safer for those unable to just "jump in the truck". Another plus they hide away for a a clean look and less road wind noise. Not sure if available as an add on if so get the tailgate step too.

The bed step under the bumper corner is quite easy. I did have to remove 2 tabs for a brace to get the assembly up in its place. Took maybe 20 minutes total for the install.

Mike, is your step manual or power? The manual is an easy install not sure about power, might need a harness adapter?

Oh. It is manual. When installing, I never thought to look if there may be a power connection for that. Hmmmmmm.

BTW, the step is easily extended and retracted by foot ?

The running boards and step when powered come as a package from the factory, not sure either or both can be retrofitted by dealer or DYI...never would have thought so but at 64 I like both ha.

I just installed the AMP running boards on my '18 Tundra and love em. After watching a few YT videos, it seems fairly easy. The wiring made me a bit nervous at first but it's actually really easy and it looks like in your '22, you just have to wire one side then plug into your OBD which makes it even easier.

I'd assume the install should be similar between AMP and TRD. Not sure about the cost difference.

I did the amp running boards also that plug into OBD. They look just like the oem boards. There are situations where they arn't instantaneous with deploying. Especially if the truck is running I can get a delay from time to time normally a second or two, at worst 3 or 4 seconds, sometimes zero delay. I think it is a function of the boards getting their logic via the OBD vs being directly connected to the truck computer. I did inquire to the dealer before buying the amps and they quoted 4k to install factory ones.

    $4k is alot!

With your 3rd gen AMPs, is there a way to not connect via OBDII and hardwire them instead? Or is OBDII the only option?
