Thanks for taking the time to compile this for everyone.

Fred Anderson Toyota is currently having a 25% off sale and free shipping over $75. I’m not sure how Fred Anderson prices compare to where you purchased yours.

I think I may have tried Fred Anderson (Asheville, NC), I can't remember, but you only had the choice to pick up and not ship. One of the places I checked had a back order on one of the thermostat hoses, so I recommend calling and confirming availability before placing an order. They got me on shipping.

Did you buy the angled fittings for the cooler?

The fittings came with the Jmunk 689 bracket kit, $145 with or $125 without. At this time, I just wanted to put back what should have been included, and this is the direction I chose. If needed, I can easily switch to another cooler and use the Hayden 689 for something else.

Transmission Cooler Bracket - Hayden 679 | Toyota Tundra Forum
    ----------------------------------
    Hayden 689
A few members have reached out stating they are currently using a Hayden 689 and asked if the bracket would work. The bolt patterns are the same for both coolers as they are the same with the exception of the outlet fittings. The bracket needed notched in the left side corners some for the wrench flats of the fittings when using 689. I reworked the CAD file and had some plasma cut/powdercoated. Below is the bracket with the notches.

If you do choose to use the 689 bracket, I would suggest using -6AN (9/16-18 female) to 3/8” (-6AN) hose end fittings. A 90 degree for the top port and 60 degree for the bottom port. I can buy these bulk and include an extra $20 if there is interest or you can source them yourselves. The powder coated bracket and stainless steel hardware kit shipped is still $125, just send me a PM and I will get your information.

The Hayden 689 is rated for a class A motor home towing 10,000lbs with a GVWR of 22,000lbs. It should be more the adequate for the average person. The core is larger than the stock OE coolers on the earlier trucks.

Beautiful day where I am so decided to install the Hayden 689 trans cooler. I posted a few photos including the hardlines front and rear mounting locations. No matter how many times I've looked at photos I never picked up on the locations. It is nice that Toyota left the front mounting bracket and the hose retention bracket, maybe they were thinking they might have to install the coolers at a later date or offer a dealer installed version? I watched a few of the videos before installation. I agree that it is easier to install the inlet/outlet hoses before the thermostat is installed. I think it is easier to install the rear hardline bolt first and then the front, there's not much room on the rear and it's in an awkward position. I've only got 8k on the fluid so I didn't drop any. I added 1.5 qts and after leveling off got a little over 16 oz. out. I went on a short drive with my scanner hooked up and the temps looked much better. My grill had never been out so the lower tabs were tight making it a little difficult to get out. I'm satisfied with the way everything came out and I think most non-enthusiast would look over it thinking it to be original equipment.
**** Added 3/15/25 ***** I just thought I might post the difference of trans fluid after leveling. I added 1.5 qts (48 oz) and got 20 oz out for leveling, leaving about 28 oz. added for the 689 cooler and lines.

@LoMile_21 the install looks great! Overall the job isn’t bad once you get going. This was the most economical way to piece together a kit that I found and the mounting bracket is simple but effective.

If anyone has any questions about the mounting brackets let me know. For the few extra dollars I like the Hayden 689 for the AN hose fittings vs the Hayden 679.

You can use a 679 cooler with the 689 bracket. You just can’t use the 689 on the 679 bracket due to a small clearance issue with the wrench flats on the AN fittings. The mounting bolt patterns and core sizes are the same for the two coolers.

Going forward I’m just getting the 689 brackets made so that either cooler can be used. I have a handful of the 679 brackets left and have numerous of the 689.

That's odd they wouldn't ship to you. I just received my order of cooler parts from them including 12 qts of ATF WS (all shipped free) :notsure:

Any reason to go for the 689 over the 679 version?

All preference, 689 the AN fittings make the radius for the connections to the cooler vs the rubber lines on 679.

Keep monitoring those tight radiuses, my hoses (on another car) started to crack in a few years. Had to redo with 90 degree brass fittings. For Tundra and Sequoia I just put the matching angled AN fittings to reduce strain on those hoses.

In Sequoia I've added a Magnefine inline magnetic filter in return line. Would love to do it in Tundra, whoever Gen 2.5 access to radiators is more tricky than in Gen 2.

Also very glad with my plasma cutter and welder, can do small fabrications like these brackets quickly =)

Did the hose you use have any reinforced cording in the outter sheath? I have been using this Gates hose from Napa with no issues:

    https://www.gates.com/us/en/search.html?searchType=product&text=6gthx

    Here is the Napa listing:

    https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/NBHH1956

This hose has the reinforced cording and I don’t foresee any issues. A hose with no cording built into the outter later I can see how it might break down being a lesser quality.

Yeah, it was reinforced. However, the rubber still cracked.

I used the 6GTHX, truth be told the pressure difference isn’t an issue itself. The pressure in the external cooler lines is fairly low. I found this hose to have reinforced cording that you can see and feel in the external sheathing. This hose is much higher quality vs hose with a smooth exterior - just my opinion.

If you wanted extra insurance for the hose, you could always cover it but I don’t think it’s necessary. Some split loom for wiring would work fine.

If you have a Parker Store nearby, they are hose experts and often times the hose is fairly inexpensive there for small amounts like this. Just another option.

Yeah, it was the one that came with the cooler (Hayden). It took it like 5 years to start cracking.

That makes more sense, the Gates hose I used appears to be much more robust vs the hose that comes with the cooler.

FYI - Fred Anderson Toyota is having a sale on parts as well as free shipping over $75. This is where I purchased the parts from for my kit.
