the no underseat storage in the hybrid was a huge swing and miss, that was a big factor in not getting one for me.

after my gen 2 , 0 storage ownership time, I wanted that back.

Toyota isn't going to make everyone happy with the models they introduce. The Tundra is going to increase in price till it basically out prices itself out of its own market. I imagine a fully loaded Platinum will be pushing 90 grand before too long.

I'm with you never owned a Tundra was thinking about one but if I wanted the hybrid it would have no under seat storage. I don't carry much but dang there is no place to put it. So if I wanted it I would have to go non hybrid which might not be a bad thing still need to drive one of them. As a truck guy I just think to myself who did Toyota talk to when it came to designing a new Tundra? I'm assuming a lot of non truck owners

there are pros to putting the battery there, but there are cons as well that you just discussed.

I find no need for more power than the non-hybrid has, it has a shit load of low end torque and tows awesome.

if you're max towing all the time then I can see the hybrid, but for me, if Im doing that, Im going bigger truck anyways.

    good luck!

I actually preferred the rear seat configuration of my 2015 Tundra, especially for my 2 large dogs...just flip the seats up and there was a nice big flat area for them to ride on. It also made hauling large items that I didn't want to put in the bed easier.

Now, with my '23, I have to use a doggie hammock over the rear seats. It's a much higher jump for the dogs, and they don't seem to be as comfortable. The tiny bit of storage under the seats isn't worth the trade-offs for me.

I think in that use scenario, the f-150 style would be best a true flat floor.

the gen 2 is nowhere close to flat, just a big elevated wedge that does nothing (it cuts down what you can carry since its in the way and elevates the floor). It was a stupid design, better off going back to the slide and recline system they had before that IMO.

but to each his own, I like the storage.

Hmm..with the rear seats up in my 2015, about 2/3 of the floor was flat. The other third, towards the front seats, was slightly lower, but not enough to be uncomfortable for my dogs. More than anything, I think they like being on a solid carpeted surface with good traction, rather than a slippery vinyl hammock. And my dogs are getting up in age, so the jump up onto the seats is a little difficult for them.

Like you said, to each his own.

If they figured out how to have a flat rear floor in even non-hybrids and added a 4 auto option, I’d be a buyer. The new setups just don’t work well for a couple of large dogs. 4 auto seems to be very common these days and would be great at 8,000’ and 5 months of snowy commutes.

Yeah the hump under the seats is kind of a head scratcher. It was part of Toyota’s mid-gen refresh that made the interior functionally worse with less storage. Change the styling a bit, but delete features and pocket the cash. Toyota isn’t the most profitable automaker out there for nothing.

I cut that hump under the seat out and added the ESP long box lockable storage.

Speaking of elevating the floor, that’s how Ford makes theirs flat. Where the Tundra has rear footwells that are lower than the driveshaft tunnel, Ford brings the entire floor up level to it.

I'm currently in a 19 Raptor so need to go drive a non hybrid Tundra but not sure I will like it. I tend to drive my pickups like sports cars sometimes and I like the extra power when it comes to those times.

Yeah the flat floor in the Ford and even the Rams is super nice. Even with back seat up I still have room for tow straps and battery jumper and breaker bar, so guess I'm spoiled there.

It's funny every time I go to look at buying a Toyota even clear back in 2009 when they first changed up the tundra there is always some little feature that I use that they don't do. I get it can't make everyone happy but I've read enough threads that even diehard Toyota fans were/are frustrated and I just don't get it why they don't bring back some things that people liked.

Ford is even joining Toyota with increasing prices and taking features away and their quality has went down as well. That's one thing Toyota had going for it but recently I can't say it's the same anymore. Then again all manufactures are having major issues and seems to never recovered after covid times it's crazy.

If I end up in a Tundra I'll let you all know.

I was seriously thinking of doing the same, but won't bite on the five year old 2026 design BS. I had read and heard that '26 would see refresh. Toyota won't see my money with my 39k mile '20 still being a better, more issue-free product.

Gee, another Gen 2 guy on the Gen 3 forum telling us how his truck is superior. Imagine that. :boink:

    Yawn.
Yeah, and another guy who has no clue the BS I went through trying to get my new '22 prior to the shit-show debut (test drives, deposits, delays, recalls.) The irony = stupidity!

2026 Tundra prediction - same truck with a higher price (nothing to do with politics, that is what happens every year and it’s too early for a refresh in Toyota world)

Been driving a 21 F150 Powerboost Platinum waiting for Toyota to get the issues sorted out on the Tundra. With no new refresh for 2026, thinking about just going to a 24 Tundra Platinum. The F150 is great when it works, but it's had a ton of issues and the dealer can't seem to fix them efficiently. If I make the move to Tundra (been a Toyota/Lexus guy the majority of my car life), I will miss the flat rear floor and the auto 4wd in the F150, but I won't miss the build quality.

Yeah I hear Ford has a ton of quality issues as well. Knock on wood mine was purchased before covid time frame when things seemed to really go to Sh*t after that. Good luck if you move to the 24 Platinum, from what I read on here they still have some issues but at least Toyota seems to step up and try to fix the problems unlike a lot of other manufactures.

Dang really? I almost pulled the trigger on a 2025 Lariat 3.5 eco boost that I had a dealer build. I got cold feet and decided to go with the tundra iForce max instead. No issues at all so far with me! I did however purchase the 10 year / 125k warranty though

I would buy two new SR5 Gen 2.5, for my sons. I will buy exactly zero Gen 3+ for my sons. For Toyota PR team.

You can have this kind of acceleration and much better handling in a regular, 20 years old passenger car, at 1/20 of price.

Don’t forget that people come to Forums to get help or air their gripes about a product. So you are faced with 99% negativism. There are easily 100 or more totally satisfied owners out there for every one with an issue here. The perfectly satisfied are rarely here glorifying their trucks. I love this forum but have to keep it in perspective.

It hasn't stranded me, but it's had a ton of little annoying issues and an unreal number of recalls. In fairness, 2021 was first year for hybrid and covid build. It's a nice truck, I do like it, I just think Toyota builds a better product overall, but even Toyota has missed out on some things that make me scratch my head, like the flat rear cargo area.
