Vice grips on the rods, pull em together while your dad pushes the tailgate in, then yanks it down, maybe?

Ooo vice grips are a good idea. We got lucky and it just popped open. Not sure what went wrong, everything looks alright. Lubing everything while it’s open

I wish I'd have known you were interest in the TRD catback. I'd have given you a ride in my 03 after Waffle House. Honestly even with the resonator delete, upgraded Y pipe and long tubes, it's still pretty quiet. I don't want it to be much louder than it is now, just a little more. My main reasons for wanting to redo the exhaust is the TRD muffler has something lose inside it, that I can hear at crawling pace in drive thru's. When I shake it I can hear something loose inside it. Probably just rust. The other reason is the muffler shop that did my headers didn't run any reducers, just did what looks like 3" pipes to the muffler and welded to the 2.5" inlet. The bends aren't impressive either. So I'm convinced I'm losing some power to back pressure, especially after a few runs against @Sirfive

Plus an X pipe should be cool.
My 06 with long tubes and Dirty Deeds duals with 16" mufflers is WAAAY louder than my 03.

i might skip paint all together, i didnt order vc gaskets. I can do those when i do the timing belt & wp. I think i might waste too much time doodling up plans for my hidden nitrous kit. My gaskets came with the center gasket, so i can pull the top off & have a looksee. Lord, help me if i get my big compressor running & bust out the air grinder. I’m a pretty good fettler when i get in the groove.

Exactly what I used on my LSPV relocation bracket. Worked like a charm. When in a pinch ... use what you got, I guess? :D

All good! I went ahead and ordered a new resonated y pipe and gaskets so if it’s quieter than I got now I’m happy. I could probably sound deaden it and be happy, but all this fell in my lap by chance so we’re rolling with it lol.

I went to the gym mid morning today and when i came out, there was an absolutely flawless unmolested showroom condition T100 parked next to my Tundra. I had to be very careful to not drool all over it when i took some pics. It’s quite apparent from both trucks right next to each other, just how similar they are…closer than cousins for sure. More like the T100 is the older more mature brother of the Tundra. IMG_2135.jpg IMG_2136.jpg IMG_2137.jpg

I saw a T100 this week too, with the TSS/TX edition 20" wheels.

Also my favorite Toyota paint color, horizon blue metallic on a Tacoma.

T100 is definitely the Gen 0 Tundra and the true predecessor to the 2nd gen+ Tacomas

You misunderstood. I said 2nd gen+ Tacoma (because they're all midsize). Best gen Tacoma was the pentacle of the pickup.

Incorrect sir. No self respecting truck has a V6. FGT is the pinnacle of trucks.

Great truck, however, personally I’m not a big fan of torsion bar suspensions for their ride quality. However, it’s certainly easier/better for lifting I’ve read.

torsion bars?…i had absolutely no idea that the T100 had them. Then again i’ve never crawled underneath a T100.

Yep. My older brother owned a two-toned green one. Definitely torsion bars.

I was not aware they had torsion bar suspension. Way back in the 1960's I worked for a Dodge dealership and some of those Dodges had torsion bars. I'm not a fan, not after seeing what can happen when they snap. Not a pretty sight. If it snapped near the back end and that wheel hit something it could drive that bar right up thru the floor. Nope, not a fan.

I think they were just copying the F150 of the late 90s/early 2000s with the suspension (my younger brother had one of those). Tundra best gen was more about the look. I think Toyota got the impression torsion bars were not a great choice and changed to the spring/shock combo for the Tundra.

I did kinda like the Ford Twin I-Beam front suspension from the sixties though. Not a breakthrough concept but oh so cool!

It was a breakthrough then! Like independent front solid axles hybrid. They used them forever. Up until the 1997 F150 refresh I think. And then it continued in the ranger.

It was used right up thru 2016 in 2WD F250 and F350 trucks. However, Swing axle suspension existed as early as the 1930's so not really a breakthrough concept. The closest it came to a breakthrough was moving the pivots outboard as previous designs pivoted in the middle. so Ford gets partial credit.

The Twin I-Beam suspension was used in:
    • 1965-1984 Ford F-100 2WD
    • 1983-1997 Ford Ranger 2WD
    • 1975-1996 Ford F-150 2WD
    • 1980-2016 Ford F-250/350 2WD
    • 1968-2014 Ford Econoline van

twin traction beam. My 2wd twin i-beam is meh. Really gotta let the steering wheel float, so you dont dart out of your lane. Had the 351m, and thats disappointing in every way but noise. But i bought it when you could get running transportation for $600.

Perhaps yours was worn? The twin I-beams in my 77 2wd F250 were tight and it steered excellent down any road ( gravel or pavement) from 10 to 100mph. Lots of time a floating steering wheel on those old fords are from a completely worn out steering rag joint or loosey goosey steering box gears. Eventually i converted that truck over to 4wd and leaf springs. I still have that truck too!
