    2025 Tundra crew cab

got in an accident the other night, merging off highway onto street, other driver ran the light coming straight came out of nowhere and BOOM. I tho l we got pushed kind of far. Idk I wasnt feeling well so wasnt driving today.

They got a careless driving ticket, i know they were going at least 80kph. There was no honk or squeal of the brakes. Just turned… moving to left turn lane… then 10 seconds later BOOM.

their car was totalled entire front section crumpled. My airbags did not go off.

Looking at pictures of other collisions i cant find anything this bad. So im wondering g how fast it looks like they were going

Looks like they were hauling ass but those Volvos are absolute units, I'm going to guess between 40 and 50 mph.

It doesn't take a ton of speed to crumple a vehicle. Especially a new one. They are designed to crumple because all the deformation is force being absorbed by the vehicle rather than transferred to the occupants. Looks like the Tundra did what it was supposed to do and gave way to keep passengers safe.

Keep in mind that your body panels are thin metal on the bedsides, and plastic/composite for the bed itself. Unless they hit the frame or the axle, it's not going to have a ton of rigid support and it's all going to crumple. In an impact with another vehicle it's going to look horrendous.

I hope you're doing okay, and I REALLY hope you went to the hospital and got checked out. If not, I suggest getting that done. Even if you didn't feel it at the time, there can be all kinds of injuries in a car accident. A previous coworker didn't feel that he had 3 fractured vertebrae for about 3 days.

It probably wasn’t going as fast as you think. Your truck is ment to crumple, and it was hit by a tank. Volvo’s- they’re boxy but they’re good.

Glad you are ok. All that matters. Looks like the Volvo went right under the bumper and lifted everything up.

Sorry to hear about your truck, just hope you & everyone involved are ok. That's all that matters, cars & trucks can be replaced. Looks pretty rough.

940 is Armageddon vehicle by Volvo. Not much to break in collision, no electronic safety BS, body panel thickness is insane. One has to understand that in collision with old Volvo it is your new vehicle is the crumple zone, not the Volvo. Be it a low sitting frameless passenger Toyota, the Volvo engine would end up in the passenger compartment.

Nothing I said is an exacerbation.

That looks more like 15~20mph worth of damage to the truck bed. The truck bumper and frame didn’t absorb very much of the collision, so it was only the sheetmetal bed that stopped the volvo. But is sounds like you’re confident they were going at least 80kph though. Then again, you haven’t given out much of any details of how both vehicles were positioned in the road.

So are you wondering because you want to pursue this in a legal matter against the other driver?

Yep I would be dead if I was in anything other vehicle. Very grateful for that truck. Glad to be (mostly) okay. Writing from hospital since my left arm has felt tingly and numb since last night.

No im just asking out of curiousity since I couldn’t find anything comparable and im confused why I am in so much pain if it wasn’t serious. The other driver was already deemed at fault.

It was a three lane road right after an intersection with one of those yield ramp things coming off the highway. We were going 50kph merging across into the left turn lane. I should have taken post crash pictures of the Volvo but I was in shock.

Tow truck driver said their vehicle was totalled. I didnt see it myself but apparently the front end was crumpled to where the doors are and their airbags went off ofc

Perhaps you suffered a whiplash injury.

"Whiplash - an injury to the cervical spine caused by an abrupt jerking motion of the head, either backward or forward." that's why you feel so sore.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WHIPS https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B2msDd5sJMA

I haven't spent time with my prev.gen Toyotas enough, but I think they don't have WHIPS. Which means being rear ended in them would be bad.

You got hit by the Nokia of cars, glad you’re ok but not surprising how the damage played out given reasons others have previously stated.

Hope the imaging pans out for you and nothing serious is found. I got three bulged/herniated vertebrae from a collision from behind with less damage than yours so it’s better to get check out early rather than later. Lawyer up is my advice as the back/spine is nothing to ignore in accidents.
