Now and then, I'll listen to his books while on the water. I had one playing last month when I caught this guy

For those interested in fly fishing Salmon in the rivers of Nor Cal in the early days this is a must watch. See how those old timers fished the rivers dry with a fly rod.

I'm going to have to read/listen to his books. I've been nerding on Behnke articles and books, but nothing fiction.

Yes^^^ I would think that would be fixable. Might not be like what is was though. See if you can get in touch with the rod builder and get their opinion on it.
Best of luck! How big was the fish!!! A MONSTER? :)

St Croix flat out replaced my 5wt for the cost of shipping; it was 20 years old and they didn't hesitate. I'd give the mfg a call and see what they can do. Most of the employees are enthusiasts.

Guessing 12-14”. I think I set the hook good scrambling around trying to prevent the reel from floating away. Ha!

I've only been doing it a few years myself; relative newbie compared to a lot of folks around. I dont tie my own flies as my brother does all the fly tying, so I mooch off of him. When I need a replenishment, I send him alcohol and receive flies in return. Good deal in my book.

I'm more interested in learning to tie than actually fly fishing. The techniques seem very fascinating

they're pretty simple, until you get to the ultra realistic flies. Those are insane. But you find out a lot of them are more "resin" work and creativity than "tying"

thing is cool if you can source cheap materials. Otherwise, if you're buying materials from a store, shit adds up quick. Lol

CoastFly is a favorite of mine.

Went a bit south last week and thought..."Hey, its warmer here since its 1500' lower"....water was iced over, but the hike w the wife was great and it'll be a good spot to come back to in the spring/summer.

Of course, the gratuitous rig shot at the trailhead:

And my wife married a retard, so when she said, "Stop so I can take a pic," this is what she gets:

The actual creek area was gorgeous. The wind was gusting well over 40 at times, so precision casting to the few open spots of water was not happening for me:

You can see some frye and fingerling swimming under the ice, but that's the only fish I saw:

Got some time on the Animas this saturday....son was playing some hockey games in Durango, so we took the time to freeze our asses off...like single digit temps on the water at the height of the sun.

On the water, I found one *really* deep pool and let the chironomid drop into a far deeper column than other spots, and thought I'd hit bottom, but that was the one and only take I had...missed the set, but had a blast w the boy. His first game in Durango was in 8* weather, so that wasn't fun at the rink...Mystery, Alaska style!

The water was freezing to the point of the eyelets getting clogged, so we called it and got a burger in town.

Thermopolis has some good areas! I'm heading in to Central UT this next weekend to get some fly fishing in w my brother, and this summer, we're headed to CA to chase some cuties in the mountains.

Welcome to the Tundra side too!

Just a quick trip up to the Minersville area; its more a hang out w my brother and catch up than a fishing trip. The CA trip this summer will be for the fish

Well, the trip was pretty damn windy this last weekend, with sustained at 40mph and gusts even higher, but we found some rock outcroppings to hunker down near, and they blocked the wind a bit. First spot the hatch had already happened so the fish weren't looking too hard for food as they had plenty. The first was the largest of the weekend:

And at the second spot, at higher elevation, the number of fish were too numerous to document. Some stockers and natural reproducing bows, a cutty here and there and one tiger. Lots of "two fish one net." Easily 50 fish each over the weekend, and that was plenty good for me.

Glad to have had the propex up and running as overnight temps were in the 20s the second night, and 30s the first. Kept the camper at a toasty temp. Had some good beers and an a solid old fashioned w fig infused bourbon, black walnut bitters, a bit of smoke, and bourbon infused fig chunks(instead of cherries).
