Hi all! I'm SandInMyTaco from Tacoma world.

I ended up selling my 19 taco in order to step up to the Tundra.

I'm looking at gas 1794 trim Tundra, with TRD OR.

Msrp ~72k, final price w.o taxes and fees is ~62k.

Anything to look out for or mod first? I see the carista engine sound is a popular first mod.

PXL_20240410_095002122.jpg PXL_20250427_102507229~2.jpg Welcome, I made the same jump from TacomaWorld. After running the full gamete of mods on the Taco, I decided to keep the Tundra mostly stock. Carista does have a few nice options like seatbelt chime delete, auto windows down/up etc..
window tint, some vent visors and a few other odds and ends.
I do miss the manual trans in the Taco, but am loving the Tundra.

    Let's see those trucks!

I’ve put timbrens ses on mine first thing, a bed step, really only practical mods; farm-truck. Can I ask what made you jump to a full size? Towing capacity?

I'm actually looking to buy a set of Timbrens to pull an RV next month. how do you like them? Is your truck stock height? How's the ride? I've got a level kit on mine, had to put a .5" spacer in the rear so trying to figure out if I need the Timbren spacer too. I figured I could just install them as needed when planning to tow. They seem very easy to install, so I figured they'd be simple to remove after a trip if they stiffened up the rear too much.

I love them, best thing I ever did and I personally feel the new 3rd gens should’ve come stock with them given the swap from leaf springs to coil. A lot of folks don’t like the timbrens ride comfort because it feels rough or hard when towing/hauling, but I personally don’t feel any of it. I’ve never pulled an RV before so can’t say how they’ll feel with that, only dump trailers and equipment haulers which are almost always hovering around the 8-9k lbs mark gross trailer weight.
Mine are engaged 90% of the time, with the 10% being the 10-15min when I’m unloading the bed to hitch up and they’re still running strong. Stock height, no spacers, you will definitely need spacers.
Below is 1.8 tons and the squat with stock timbrens. Do not do as I do.

Beautiful! I've been there done that, but in my younger years, I try not to get into that much work nowadays if I can help it. I'll be placing my order.

Thanks all. Heading to a dealer later today. I really wanted the HUD but it's difficult/non-existent to find at the moment for TERRA/Off Road

Yup, upgrading for a few reasons. Im taller, and crouching to enter the taco is annoying. No drivers side grab bar. Having actual real seats. More power, and better mpg (lol).

I walked out on two dealers yesterday just to see how low they would go, it seems that ~10k off MSRP is around where the limit is right now.

If anyone else is looking to buy ATM, that ends up being around 14% off MSRP, including Toyota incentives. Most dealers will bend quickly to 12%, however some will go further to ~14%.

Good to hear they are swaying because you'll need the extra cash for all of the mods :eek2:

BTW If you can swing it get the HUD!

I was told you cannot see the HUD with polarized glasses, is this correct?

You can see it with Costas 580P,the Black lens pair gives me a hard time but the others are fine.
I can't speak for Maui Jim's or others...

I don’t like my HUD, if you lean over on the center arm rest you can’t see it and I could not find a way to adjust it right to left. It is gimmicky, is it that much effort to see the big number in the center of your screen?

Traded my 2017 Tacoma in on a new Tundra 1794 two weeks ago.

At 6’4” my knees thank me….both are overdue for replacement.

I struggle to see it with my Costas and Oakleys.

I found out about the OPZ lens that Gatorz offers….it is polarized yet it plays well with digital displays. I couldn’t decide which model to get, so I brought two…with different tints. Each have those OPZ lenses.

It is true to varying degrees. My Costas struggle with the HUD. Green glass lens that is legendary on fresh water fishing & boating. Truly the very best sunglasses I've ever owned.

Those Gatorz can’t get here fast enough.

I test drove two 1794's.....first was the one my salesmen had ready for me before I got there.

An hour later I drove the one I really wanted (different color). Same features in each.

The first model the HUD was way out of position for me (taller driver).

Later on in the afternoon the salesmen gave me a tutorial rundown of the various tech features in the truck I bought. One of them was to dial in the HUD. You can adjust BOTH the horizontal and vertical positions of where it is displayed.
It took some time with the owners manual later on to get it set perfectly for the final seating position that I programed in my seat.

    It works perfectly for me.

My late wife's BMW X5 was loaded with tech, however it was very seamless. Then again, the dealership had a "trainer" who scheduled sessions with each customer to gain mastery over their controls / adjustments. My wife wasn't interested and sent me in to the sessions and then show her what was relevant later on. :ballchain:

My 2017 Tacoma & 2025 Tundra both were bought from the same dealership and salesman. I like the way they handled me with that Tacoma and their service department did right by me. The salesman was straightforward all the way through...no overt bs and shenanigans like are typical with almost every other car purchase I've made.

The training in those Toyotas was limited to a ten minute "oh, by the way let me show you this and that".
Honestly, that was about all I had time for that afternoon, anyway.
Toyota has a pile of videos on YouTube as well as dozens of other influencers / car reviewers / dealership staff that post tutorial stuff.

My large Tundra owners manual is getting eaten one bite at a time.

Congratulations on getting the new ride.

I was struggling from sticker shock of all the new vehicles I was looking at. My 2017 Tacoma had been paid off for a few years and my late wife's BMW X5 had been totaled in Sept 2024.

I finally accepted the fact that any new vehicle that interested me was going to be an expensive undertaking.
Both my knees are shot out at now in my mid-50's and both overdue for replacement. I don't know when I'll take the time off to get the first knee, second knee and one of my shoulders replaced. I don't think my employer is goring to be very tolerant of that much time off with each.
I commute 30+mins to work and the workdays are 13hr-15hr shifts. Sometimes I wouldn't be able to make the drive home from work in the Tacoma without a pit stop to get out and stretch my legs. Freaking arthritis has set in like rust.

It had become my only vehicle.

My hand was forced....I truly had to get something larger.

I was enthused about the looks of the TRD Pro.....aggressive looking beast. I could no better hop in / out of it than I could the convertible sports car that I want to add someday.
I knew that whichever full sized truck I bought it would need powdered retractable steps that went low enough to be perfectly placed.
The Platinum and the 1794 were equipped with steps that are absolutely the most comfortable I've ever used....and covered under the 10yr 120,000 mile warranty that was part of the deal.

I was very pleased with the trade in amount offered by my dealer....pluse they discounted the Tundra 1794 $6,800+ right off the rip an we went from there.

One thing I wish I'd have done differently was a to negotiate the price of them adding the TRD lift to my 1794 and working it into the price. The price they quoted two weeks later was insane.

Anything to look out for or mod first?

    My own list thus far....

    • I have a road trip to make next month and in June, too. Afterwards I'll likely swap the tires for something larger and more aggressive than the original tires (which ride great). Looking at either Firestone Destination XT2 or MT2 tires. I've had both types on my Tacoma and they were awesome performers and looked great, too.
    IMG_4878.jpg
    Image 149.jpg
    • At the time of purchase I worked a 10yr-120,000 mile bumper-to-bumper warranty, all scheduled service, gap insurance, roadside assistance and some other stuff into the deal. First time in my life that I have ever bought an extended warranty on ANYTHING. The iForce Max hybrid motor, pile of tech, powered steps and all that jazz concerned me. Once I passed the basic warranty period any repair expense could be unforgiving. I have faith I Toyota....but I feel much better with the 10yr carefree ownership.
    • ordered screen protectors for the 14" display & the main speedometer / tach / etc display. No more fingerprints or glare. Waiting on them to arrive this week.
    • ordered a pair of inserts for the front & rear cup holders....they'll allow the cup holders to adjust as originally designed + hold taller cups & bottles more securely
    • Husky exact fit floor liners arrived and were put in place. I'll safe the great looking 1794 mats for date nights and such. The Husky mats are very comfortable and the coverage acreage is awesome. Superfast delivery when ordered direct from Husky.
    IMG_5052.jpg

    IMG_5074.jpg
    • sounds dumb....but I needed a radar detector. I commute through a section of interstate that has moving construction zones which may not be readily apparent at the early / late hours I'm coming through them. I don't want a superspeeder ticket ! The reminder of the radar detector will help. The truck is so smooth that I fail to discern how fast I am actually going. I now use the adaptive cruise control much of the time.
    IMG_5140.jpg
    • ordered a rack from Bulletpoint that will fit perfectly in the dash tray. I'll position my cellphone, radar detector and passenger's cellphone and/or tablet right where they are desired.
    upload_2025-4-28_7-26-0.png

    Image 4-26-25 at 9.10 AM.jpg
    • ordered an easily installed reverse + brake + running light for the tow hitch receiver. Waiting on it to get here.
    • new sunglasses ordered that would play well with the HUD. I could've used non-polarized, however I was intrigued by the OPZ lenses from Gatorz (polarized yet optimized for reading digital displays..gas pump payment screens, ATM's, HUD, etc). Waiting for them to arrive. First time I've bought sunglasses in a 12+ years. My trusty Costas have been great but will now free to go back to Costa for some warranty refurbs.
    upload_2025-4-28_7-22-0.png

    • The JBL sound system needs more horsepower...plain and simple. I wasn't prepared for how much I'd enjoy driving with the rear window down and moonroof open. It is now the only way I want to drive. When the rear & roof are opened up the JBL system losses punch...plain and simple. I think there is a simple solution: adding an amplifier that'll boost the factory system. I'm going to run by a local shop that does all sorts of options for the dealerships and price a couple options. I may simply order & install something myself. I like the JBL system....just want to kick it up a few notches. :benchpress:

    • aftermarket lift or leveling kit......possibilities. I want to determine exactly what the impact will be to the extended vehicle warranty will be.
    IMG_5139.jpg
    • light bar added to front grill. Wil have the local shop price them for me and decisions made on whether or not I have them do it....or if I tackle it myself.
    Image 51.jpg
    • I need to order a bed mat that'll help pad and grip stuff.
    IMG_4876.jpg

    my wallet is now :nuclear:

Gonna take a while to recover....:turtleride:
