Hey guys, how's it going? New to the group. I am considering putting in a rocky mountain leveling kit to raise the front a bit. then thinking of putting 305's on the stock 20's (yokohama geolander a/t) . just wondering if anyone has had issues with this? will I need to recalibrate speedometer?

Good thing you joined this page before purchasing so called “rocky mountain leveling kit”. Never even heard of that.

Start your search with Bilstein 5100 if you are looking to simply raise the front.

That kit is showing a 2.5-3” kit which would give you a nose up look. 2” in front would be level.

Also it is tyically a good idea to stay away from the spacer style lifts like rough country!

The shocks that come on the "TRD" package are made by Bilstein but provide no lift whatsoever, it is just a slight upgrade over stock. Bilstein also makes the suspension setup that comes on the "TRD Pro", which would give you the 2 inches up front that you desire, however it is only available through Toyota and isn't worth the $3000 price tag or whatever they want for it.

So in short, Bilstein makes any shock you will find on a "TRD" Toyota, but none are worth purchasing from Toyota if that makes sense.

The 5100 series and 6112 series of Bilstein shocks/coilovers both provide adjustable front lifts and better ride over stock. They are also both a lot safer/more practical than a spacer lift.

    Mike,
Is this what you were talking about? looks like I would just replace the shocks, and keep my springs?

    http://www.lmperformance.com/870354...ck-absorber-toyota-tundra-2017-2007-rear.html

I called the dealer yesterday to ask about leveling my truck to get the rake out, and the guy had no clue as to what I was talking about!! So frustrating! I want the dealer to do the install so I don't void the warranty, but not sure that I trust them at this point. I am totally new to this and this, and this is my first truck out of 4 that I am "Playing" with. I don't want to go crazy beefy, want it to look slick.

You won't be voiding any warranties with a leveling kit or new shocks! It really is amazing how little the dealers know about aftermarket parts for these trucks. They try to push the same 2-3 garbage brands at every dealership (stuff that is cheap and they can make the most $$$ on such as procomp and rough country).

But yes, the Bilstein 5100 shock uses your stock springs and has 3 height adjustment settings. One is about 1.53" which will leave you with a slight rake (I have my truck on this setting if you want to see pictures in my build thread), the other is about 2.23" which will look dead level to the eye but may give you a slight nose up look if you are towing or have the bed loaded down. The reason I wen't with the middle setting is I tow a lot and actually prefer a little rake.

The guys over at @ToyTec Lifts are good dudes and know their stuff when it comes to suspension for Tundras. You might want to check out their site and maybe chat it up with one of them for a bit! They are vendors here as well so you get a 5 or 10% discount just for being a member here.

What I meant was come to the forums for your questions. I wouldn't expect you to drive from Mass to Va. :anonymous:

So I decided to go with the Bilstein 5100's. I am going to buy them, then have them replaced by at a shop. Can anyone tell me how long this should take so I don't get totally screwed on labor? I am from Western Mass, so if anyone has any recommendations, let me know.

I don't know what the labor should be. In my opinion you should also get an alignment done after if you are changing the ride height.

I am getting new tires as well, but yes I was going to re-align as well.
    Thanks for the reminder though.

I got quoted 2.5 hours from a few different shops for the 5100 install. Seems fair since it will take someone a while just to get them assembled. That did not include an alignment.

I just got a call back from one guy, he told me that the shocks would take about 2-2.5hrs per side. @ $108 per hour! That's crazy...

Seems steep. Honestly, the 5100 install price is whats keeping me away from them. I'd rather spend 800 on assembled 6112s, and just DIY in a few hours in the driveway, since I woulden't need the spring compressor.

Truth be told, the 5100s do seem like alot of work to me. You have to remove the stock assembly, take it apart, compress the spring, reassemble with the 5100s, then put it all back in. That middle part is a shit load of work, compared to just swapping out an assembled coil. Toytec charges $100 just to assemble the 6112s, and I'm sure they are pretty damn quick at it. Add in some time for the dis-assembly of the old stuff, blah blah - maybe your quote isn't too far off.
