As I was trying to fill up my truck the pump would run for a few seconds and then stop like the tank was full but I know it's not. I just completed a 300 mile road trip.
I tried another pump and had the same problem.

Has anyone experienced this or know what the problem is?

When that happens, I just rotate the pump a little and push the pump further in and never had any more problems. I just figured that the fuel was hitting the side of the tube too hard. You may want to try setting the pump to a lower flow rate also.

    Thanks.
I'll go back later and try rotating.

I tried using a slower flow rate/pushing the pump further but had the same result.

Post #2 hit the nail on the head. My truck is that way as well as my wife's BMW. The old Chevelle is even harder to fill, the filler neck is behind the rear license plate and low, if you try to pump to fast you'll take a gasoline shower. I stand to the side of it now.

Fuel could be splashing the siphon tube closing the nozzle

    Update:
Went to another station same thing happened at first.
I rotated the nozzle like @chphilo suggested and that did the trick.

    Thanks!

    Another update.
Had the same issue last week but this time I couldn't get anything to work. Dropped the truck off at the dealer and they said something hit the tank and damaged the unit that senses the tank it full.
They are replacing the tank and I should hopefully get it back Wednesday!

They stuck me in a RAV4 and I really miss my truck.

Still can’t get more than $28.00 worth of fuel
Called Toyota today and apparently no recall

Did you get this resolved? I have a 2016, that just started doing this this morning. It’s out of warranty.

We have the vapor recovery nozzles to recover the gasoline vapors/air from the tank your state my not. These nozzles don't go into the take as deep as the regular nozzles and they are a pain sometimes. Kind of think of it as drinking a soda and burping. Air is coming up faster than fuel is going down Just slow down the nozzle a little bit.

There is one post here, somewhere, where a member did have a blockage and was barely able to get gas in. I don't know what the outcome was. Sorry You may have to search for that post cause I don't recall much about it.

    Still digging around.

Even if I trickle it in, it still stops.

I found some other posts. It’s apparently an issue for SOME 2016s. Not a widespread issue.

Just to throw another hand in this, I'm in the same situation. My Tundra is 9 months old with 15K, and the dealer just ordered a new fuel tank this morning. Is there a permanent fix if this happens again? I'm just starting my build so I'd like to have some contingency plans if this happens again in the middle of nowhere.

My 2016 had this issue after a trip to Disneyland. I was limping by either barely holding the handle on the pump or propping it with a couple pens and sitting for about 30 mins to fill up. At one point the pump reset towards the end and I got like $100 in free gas. I took the truck to a local shop and they ordered me a new fill assembly, took mine off, and found a stuck flap. They opened it up and put it back together. Only cost me $300 in labor o_O but almost a year later I haven’t had any more problems.

I have had this problem on other vehicles. We run GM and Fords. All lease road and off road applications. We have problems with the evap filter for the gas tank getting clogged and they are a pain to fill up. Not sure if this is the case for tundras but always something to look at.
