I understand that. The pictures look to be wide.

I skipped around in this video and all looks wide enough.

    Hahahaha! Got that right!

    Hope you can make it!

    For any trip:
    recovery gear
    tools
    radio
    air
    water
    first aid kit

for this day trip I'll add:
    food
    beer
    camping chair
some warm clothes in case it gets cold

There's no harm in bringing extra stuff, you have a big truck and some extra weight over the rear tires never hurts offroad!
You never want to use tools, recovery gear or first aid stuff but never hurts to have it just in case.

Food and water is basic stuff especially for the kids. Tow straps incase someone gets stuck. It's going to be an easy run. I don't think it will be too crazy.

You and the family should try to come. I'm coming from the Fontana/ Rancho Cucamonga area. I'll probably be the driving further than you.

So I just voted after reading through this entire thread, took me a while but wanted to make sure I knew what I was getting myself into. I am a newbie to off-roading and have a stock SR5 4x4. Assuming I would be fine I am down for something relatively easy. Does anyone know how long this awesome adventure would take? Meet at 8:00am/9:00am somewhere and get through the trail by 4:00? Sound about right? Anyway someone could peel off after lunch time and head back home? Literally first time for a meet up and off-roading so just trying to gauge if taking one of the boys or the whole fam is a good idea. I now want to get a skid plate, dual band radio and some A/T tires thanks to all of you...not a bad thing though.

I am also 50/50 on the timing since I am shooting an engaged couple up in SLO the night before. So I might remove my vote unless I can get them earlier. I would totally bring a drone and take some sweet shots of everybody crushing it too!

You'd be just fine! The trails set up for this trip are with first timers in mind!

Your timeline isn't far off, and I'd think most are more than open to accommodating any requests. I haven't done either trail, so it's hard to really plan times, but from what I've read each trail is "a few hours" so being able to split at lunch shouldn't be an issue. Also a "go time" of 4 or 5 pm is also well within reason.

    Thanks!

Just realized I need a set of new TRD wheels, probably some 20"'s, and ARB twin, a set of maxtrax, recovery strap of 20,000lbs+, 6" lift, new led's headlights, a pew pew, the list goes on...

What’s up everyone! Just a little insight on Sandstone Canyon. It’s a great little trail. No problem with 2wd and you get to cruise up Fish Creek (no water, haha) to get there. Really tall cliffs on each side but easy going until the collapse, see pictures above. There is a turnaround at the collapse and it’s still a fun picturesque trail. I doesn’t take very long, maybe a couple hours from Split Mountain Rd. It has been a couple years since I’ve been through it though.
Anza has so many fun trails, it’s a great place to explore.

    That's a long list!

Honestly, best course of action is to get out there and see what you need. If possible catch a ride in someone's truck who has some of the things you want suspension wise so you can feel it out.

Ooooh that looks a little tight.

    Yeeeeap... lil snug there.

Well maybe we'll start with lower coyote, let some people split off and some of us can check it out and scout it out for a future meet. If not we can cruise home or check out something else if we have time!

Vallecito wash looks likewide open fast fun!

I agree let's keep it simple for the first run. I know some people might be skeptical about the trails and I want everyone to feel comfortable.

FYI: to all the tentative members, The pics and videos were just for fun. We won't do anything that crazy that would mess your trucks up

    Haha! THIS.
Yes. And I like having @Marty McFly along in hopes we'll all sign a no cameras 'no pictures of people, only pictures of trucks' rule. So only our trucks get #KNOWN.
    4WD ladies... rock crawlers....
I think it's a great idea to plan 2 trails, kind of an a.m./ p.m. deal, so anyone that has to leave can do so while we're all gathered up between the two.

I've got some buddies that hang in Borrego Springs frequently. I'll ask for opinions on the best lunch spot, in case we decide on these 2 trails, because then we'd have an option for a social hour in between... which could double as an opt-out/ join-in place for anyone who can only make it for half the day....?

Or... if there's no such place or y'all would rather skip a sit-down, we can find a place along that paved route between, to break out picnic lunches and accomplish the same.

    Good you brought this up!

    Word.
I hope you can make it! I'm voting for 2 trails with a break in between for regrouping and socializing. Would that make this more appealing for your family? I plan to bring my family. They've agreed to do this at least once.
    ME THREEE!!! :mudding:
Ruh-roh! Looks bad, but I think this is the place we turn around? Just need to make sure we leave a little space for whoever's I front to call a stop, so we don't jamb up in the turn around area.
    :help:
Welcome to the forum! And thanks for checking in on this thread with some specific info on this trail! I'm definitely up to try it!! We can always put @eccracer104 in front with his mini truck :boink: to check it out.
I saw you asked about that TRD aluminum skid posted for sale. Did you get it? Was that you?

You won't need it for this trip tho-.
Or any of that other cool stuff on your list. :turtleride: But if you get those mods you can drive with the big dogs. @joonbug
    :muscleflexing::curls:
The spirit is willing, but the flesh....
Oh, man! No luck getting that day off, huh? Do you work every Saturday, or some off? I'm already thinking I may go again somewhere closer to Temecula on 2/10. Plus, I can sometimes do fun stuff on week days when the rest of y'all are workin'.... :stirthepot:

Not working, the GF made plans with family that we have previously canceled on many times before. So I don't want to cancel again. If you go on 2/10 we should be free! Put it on our calendars

Holy quotes @Sunnier ! I think you quoted the whole thread

I was thinking bring food and make lunches on the trail, but if you'd like to stop on pavement or go to a spot I'm totally cool with that too! I'm open for whatever :hungry:

Also I'm in for two trails. We'll for sure start with Lower Coyote, and if some people want to break off and head home or have time constraints that'll be a quick and easy. It's out and back, so we'll make sure everyone gets back to the road safely.
From there if we have the time and desire we can hit Sandstone. I believe you're correct, the end where it gets tight looks to be the turn around spot. I have no problem leading and stopping us if something comes up that looks sketchy or too narrow. I'm not as wide as you all are, but a Tundra is 80" wide, with my front suspension/wheel and tire setup I'm only 2-3" narrower lol. It'll be pretty easy to tell if you guys will make it through or not

Hey all how's it sound to meet at Anza-Borrego Desert State Park Visitor Center (300 Palm Canyon Dr, Borrego Springs, CA 92004).
There's a couple gas stations near by if needed, it's ~7 miles from the trail head, and has a large parking lot for us to meet at.
Say 9am? Or should we push that to 9:30 or 10?

I figured a little later might be better for you and anyone with a longer drive.
I'll post up 9:30 so people get their butt in gear earlier knowing full well most will arrive closer to 9:45-10
So you're 100% safe arriving at 10! haha.

Haha no worries! It's nearly an hour longer drive for you.

Also found this video of the trail. First water crossing looks like it'll be an interesting challenge. Looks long but low and easy in this video, granted it's an old one, so we'll see what happens when we get there. No shame in turning around if it's uncomfortable, we'll use our best judgement.

    *1st water crossing at 15:15*

If I could drive 2 hours to go wheeling... I'd go everyday! All our trips are 4-10 hours away and we have to wake up at 5 am. o_O
