I really like my double cab for 90% of the time. With a rear facing seat sitting the middle it's fine, but I'm worried what's going to happen when #2 gets here eventually. Even a 6' bed would have the made the decision easier.

When I first started shopping for a Tundra I wanted a DC due to the bigger bed and using my truck for work. I’ve got two sons ages 13 & 17 and the DC has ample room in the back for them. In hindsight most of the time I am only hauling golf clubs, fishing poles and tackle boxes. If I had it to do over again I would have gotten a CM. Also for me the 5.7 would definitely be a deal breaker as well. Hope this helps, good luck on your decision.

Well I got kids 2 and 13, the heaviest load I will have will be a new patio set or landscaping stuff, so now I'm all confused. More room or more power with little less room. Decisions decisions.

Looking at other truck drivers' facial expression when they see me roll down my rear window? Priceless. :D

CM bed is bigger than you think. Here is a picture of how I carried a couple of kayaks from the store.

Remember that rear seat is handy for carrying stuff also.

I have the 5.7 in a CM to be honest it sometimes has too much power, like when pulling away from a stop, IMO I do not need almost 400hp in a pickup truck, it's cool and all but I would rather have better mileage. I have had many new Toyota pickups, my favorite was my '84 with around 100hp.

I can just squeeze my motocross bike into the bed of my DC if I kick the back wheel to one side, then the tailgate closes. This wouldn't be possible in a CM, I would have to leave the tailgate open, then I would not be able to pull the camper.

A CM with the 6.5ft or 8ft bed would be the ultimate truck. I would trade mine in tomorrow for that.

Fitting dirt bikes in the bed was my reason for going DC.

This was two weeks ago with my friends truck. These little tailgate bars work great so you can still pull a trailer with two bikes in the bed.

After coming from a 2.7 Tacoma, and a 22RE Pickup, the 4.6 feels like a race car. Haha

Double cab= good bed space, crappy cab room in rear.
Crewmax= smaller bed space, excellent room inside.
If u have kids, get the crewmax, u will regret it down the road if u dont. Rear facing car seats SUCK in double cabs. And to be honest, the extra bed space in a double cab is great, but many claim that they need it even tho u can get by without it. Just my .02

I will take the HP any day just because it's there doesn't mean you have you use it. My buddy still has a 86 Toyota from Georgia that's in great shape but what a sled I think when we come to a hill I can get out and run faster. Lol
The only way less hp would work is if you are a flat lander we have hills so no thanks.

This really isn't a choice, but I'll play along. Crewmax 5.7. The double cab is really a compromise in all ways. Cramped back seat, halfway longer bed that's still smaller than a standard. Crewmax gives you a real back seat for real people and prevents toddlers from kicking you in the back of the head for buying a double cab.

It's Crewmax. And for making the right choice, they'll give you a nifty back window that rolls all the way down without one of those prisoner windows in the middle messing up the grand view.

But the cm is 4.6 not 5.7. The difference is over $4k to get the 5.7 in crewmax. But I can get the DC just for little more with the 5.7.

A big question is how tall are you and wife? If you and wife are taller and need to push front seats back to be comfortable go CM . If you are on shorter side I would say DC .
I am 5'8" wife 5'4" so our seats are pulled forward , my 6' son , baby car seat , and DIL are very comfortable with ample room in the back of my DC. It is much better than the back seat of son's Ford Exploder .
I also would recommend the 5.7 or make sure you test drive both engines.

Yes I understand you can get both. But OP said it was either 4.6 CM or 5.7 DC.

You can still put a full size camper on the 6.5'. Bit more difficult with the 5.5'. I've done a few on the spot overnighters during hunting season. I'm taller than 5.5' and don't care to sleep in the fetal position. It's all about need. I don't need the extra cab space at all. I do need the longer bed.

DC w/6.5' bed maintains same wheel base length as the CM w/ 5.5'. The 8' has longer wheel base. There is always a trade off. Hence...depends on need.

Then you don’t drive hard enough. With that ICON setup you should be able to make her puke from intensity and you’ll never have her tagging along again....problem solved

Gonna be an upgrade in legroom too, regardless which one you pick.

I have a DC, i've ridden in the back on a 4 hour road trip and had no complaints. I have a kid so I have rear facing car seats and I'll agree with everyone, it sucks. My wife is only 5'2 so we make it work. Even with that said... I wouldn't swap it. I'll have my truck longer than I'll have a rear facing car seat and I'd rather have the bed space than cab space that i'll never benefit from.

    also... 5.7 all day.
