Issues with parking sensor

Has anyone had issues with their front parking sensor? Sometimes my right front sensor will go off when there isn't anything close to the front of my truck and it won't stop beeping until I press the parking button and turn it off. My truck is only a year old and hasn't been wrecked or anything. I'm not sure why it's doing this. I've also had issues with my radio/navy system turning off completely when I am driving down the road. Any thoughts on either of these issues?

 

Oddly enough mine does the same thing. Same side, front right. Usually only when its raining, so I don't know if like large ass rain drops just like it there. Also only when stopped. If I begin to drive it goes off, which may be the wind blowing away said large rain drops, or something.

They are very sensitive so it could be the rain. I wrapped my front bumpers and the overlay actually sets them off too... havent gotten around to fixing it yet.

 

Mine does it on front drivers side. I asked a similar question a month or so ago and it seems to be a regular annoyance. Most folks just turn off the sensors as they are about $275 to replace IIRC.

 

Don't quote me on the specific number (check your manual) but...The front sensors are only active under 5mph. That's why they stop when driving.

I too have had problems with my drivers side sensor doing the exact same thing as you describe. My truck is a '16 so it's very odd it would go bad this quickly. Seems like there are a lot of us with this problem. I'm taking mine in for replacement in the next week or so.

About you radio/nav system, I have no problems with mine so I'm no help in that dept. Sorry!

 

That is correct, once you hit 5 mph they shut off. Sometimes my sensor works properly and then there are times it's always beeping! Ugh!

 

My front sensors do some weird things when there's ice, snow, or mud on it. I've been having problems with my righthand sensor too. but I'm assuming it's from my very dirty truck.

 

My '14 had the Entune reboot problem. It would freeze, then reboot or I'd have to power cycle it myself. The dealer tried to upgrade the firmware which is the first step but it wouldn't even download it so they had to replace the entire unit. Good thing it was under warranty...very expensive!

 

I had a problem with my sensors....I started just running into stuff...works fine now.

 

Mine does the same thing , I've had my right front one replaced with a new one but it still comes on during rain, and slow driving scenarios
Best of luck if you have this issue. I'm not sure if it can be fixed.

If someone get this fixed please post that so the rest of us Tundra owners can follow suit.

 

Oddly enough my front left has acted up a few times. I just turn it and the blind spot monitor off, drive for a few minutes then turn it back on. Seems to clear up after that. Even wiped it off to make sure.

 

My '16 does this as well. Typically on the drivers side but sometimes passenger. It can be a blue sky day after it sat for sometime. No clue as to what causes it.

I got a new clip and re-seated my front passenger sensor. No problems since. I was still under warranty, but easier for me to do it than wait at the dealer for a service appointment.

 

Same here mines just did it this morning after a flash flood last night, sensor was all wet this morning but instantly goes to red my truck hasn’t made a year yet does anyone know if it’s covered under warranty ☝

 

Yes, should be under warranty if you are still within your mileage/36 month. Check out post #6 for details on TSB. I would print it and bring it with you to move things along with your service advisor.

My 2016 Tundra is beyond the warranty. All of my parking assist sensors work, however, the right front will occasionally enunciate for no reason. With an hour to kill at the campground yesterday, I disassembled it, but didn't see any issues, except grit. After reassembly, it still malfunctioned. Now I'm testing a solution I found on Youtube, WD-40. I used a tube to increase the application pressure. I'll keep you posted.

 

6/30/2021: The first day after applying the WD-40, the issue was worse than before. It went off every time the vehicle speed was below 5 mph. Every time I placed the lever in drive or reverse, it went off for no reason. The next day however, it was slightly better. It only went off occasionally. The last time I drove it, there was a pronounced improvement, which means it only went off once without cause. IMHO, it has not fixed the problem, but the condition has improved. On the up-side, if the WD-40 made the situation worse, then the sensor may be faulty and simply replacing the sensor will fix the issue. More to follow.

08/06/2021: Update. The condition is tolerable. The sensor works. By that I mean it enunciates when there are obstacles present and I've only experienced one false alert in the last month. Verdict: the WD-40 is a very inexpensive fix for the sensor problem. It is definitely worth trying before expending $100+.

 

I have a 2021 Tundra with 6400 miles on it. It has been into the dealer 3 times for the passenger front bumper sensor. It’s under warranty so they just replace it and a few weeks later it does the same thing. They keep saying it’s a faulty sensor.

Any suggestions as to what to say to the dealership?

 

Sorry. I got nothing. My issue was corrected by replacing the sensor.

 

It seems like my front sensors are temperature sensitive. I get an error any time I come out to my truck when it is 40 or below or over 90. Very annoying. I also have a problem with my radio system turning off or locking up randomly. Any ideas for a fix?

 

Franko4x4 In California there is a Lemon law that protects you if you have to take a new car for repairs for the same issue 3 or more times. Manufacturers never want their vehicles associated with "Lemons". Ask the dealer if it falls under the lemon law and they might look a little harder at the root of the problem.

 

No longer under warranty. I have had this issue sporadically and had found the TSB but not pulled the trigger as the issue has stopped for the moment. The TSB calls out an Ultrasonic Sensor Spacer (part #89345-0C010 -$19.97 list) and Ultrasonic Sensor Retainer (part#89348-0C011 - $8.68 list). Need two of each to do both sides. Is this what you installed?

 

I have a rear driver's side parking sensor that beeps and shows red whenever I put the truck in reverse. It remains on as long as I'm in reverse, but it doesn't start up when I shift into drive. (So, if I'm parked and pull forward, it doesn't activate. If I put the truck in reverse, it activates until I'm done backing up and shift back into drive.)

I'm curious if anyone has replaced these on their own. I'm also curious to see what @wh4x4 used to re-seat the sensor.

 

My experience is similar to everyone above. I put the bumper shellz on my front and my drivers sensor just kept activating after, I know I jacked it up a little when removing. Got a new one from a kick ass dude on here and installed. Worked great but would still activate at times. I pushed the sensor slightly to make sure it was seated flush, it was raised maybe 3mm on one side, hasn’t done a bad thing since. I would suggest checking to make sure the sensor is completely flush, not angled in the slightest.

Yes, my post calls out the parts specified in that TSB which I purchased. The problem seems to have resolved itself although periodically reappears for a short time, then goes away again. I am waiting for it get really annoying before I do the job.

 

My passenger side sensor is going off intermittently since I installed the bumper shellz. I’ll try pushing it in and making sure it’s flush…and if that doesn’t work then I’ll just shut it off.

 

As suggested I pushed in on the sensor and lo and behold it seems to be working as designed. Only time will tell…
