I'm considering wrapping (or having) my bumper ends wrapped too but as I understand it, vinyl wraps are not a long term solution. They are only expected to last a 3-5 years?

sure the vinyl holds up to rocks just as well as paint would. If it hit hard enough or just right your going to get a "chip" or I guess "peel" would be better word for a vinyl covered part.

The vinyl is so cheap (do a search on here for some of the options) that you can redo it in 3-5 years if needed and still be way under paint or powder coat.
Also if you get hit your not losing out on all that money spent on paint or powder coat like what happened to me.

Well now thats a whole different ball game. If you plan on taking it to get wrapped it might just be as expensive as the powder coat or paint option. If you do it yourself then you will save a lot of $$$$. I will admit it was a big pain in the bootie for me to do it.

Just shop around. Get some paint prices, some powder prices and some wrap prices.

    Good luck

    Nice

Did they do it without taking end caps off!

Did they leave bumper ends on!

When I was on Facebook I was on a group called DFWTundras. There is a guy name Kyle Reed that did all the local wrapping. If you have a Facebook reach out to him, he is in Little Elm.

    Too many…scratch that…not done yet.
'Just realized I have not replied back to this thread since I received/applied the vinyl. I did post to a couple other threads (with pics)...links below.
    Bottom line....Beyond happy!!

    https://www.tundras.com/threads/mag...m-1g3-picture-thread.8675/page-16#post-433503

    https://www.tundras.com/threads/wha...3rd-gen-tundra-today.713/page-394#post-422617

I started out wrapping the mirrors, and the hood bulge. Bumper endcaps will be next. I've got some replacement fog lights on order that will go in at the same time I wrap the fronts.

Just my 2 cents to the previous comments...to each their own.
I understand the desire to paint. For me, anything painted on the front of the truck and high-use edges (doors, under handles) are covered with a clear bra...i.e., vinyl.
So color matched vinyl on parts that I would ultimately apply a clear vinyl to, is just a no-brainer. Especially given the total cost.
That said, I love doing my own mods, so I was happy to do the wrapping myself.
While I've done some other smaller items, this was my first time wrapping exterior body parts. The Oracal vinyl is really easy and great to work with.

I’m just starting to look into this, but I’m sure the quality of the material had a lot to do with how it holds up. There is plenty of cheap material. I have read about a 3M product that has the ability to recover from an impact and is a lot less likely to hold a dent. Good labor is important, but there in no substitute for quality material.

i am just going to get mine painted to match next month. i went to a shop and looked into vinyl but the colors weren't going to match. i asked around different body shops for painting and they referred me to a shop that paints a lot of chrome. he is going to remove the bumper caps, door handles, mirror caps, and the chrome around the grill and hood. they will be lightly sand blasted to rough up the finnish, then prime and paint, they will be fine, i am not worried about it one bit.

$500, i have been still thinking about buying the parts in the right color, but my gosh they are so expensive.
i have seen some folks selling their chrome stuff on here i was wondering what they were getting for it.
i mean if i could get all the parts and be out $200-$300 i might go that route. i had it set up to be done 1/15/18 so i could do some more figuring. lol

Following back up on the original post. Found a local vinyl installer - finally, that was interested in doing the work. We went with an Oracle Charcoal Metallic, which seemed to be he closest match. I guess I can tell it’s not exact, but neither is my MGM grill and hood bulge. The cost was $315 including materials for all 4 corners, which is a lot but less than buying them painted or having them painted. It took them all afternoon to complete the job - glad I didn’t try it myself.

Couple of pics... first pic is of the front corner in the shop when I picked up the truck. The next one is mine next to a buddies at work whose truck is stock MGM; cool to see side by side a before/after pic. So glad to get ride of the chrome.

Looks great! Have you by any chance seen or heard or someone doing their own vinyl wrap? The Oracle Charcoal is fairly inexpensive on Amazon and a heat gun can be borrowed from a friend so I might attempt this myself one afternoon. Start with the rears and the front if all goes well. YouTube has been helpful and worst case scenario I take it off. I just have not found a video specific to the Tundra and the end caps, if there is one out there. Thanks in advance!

Looks good, did they do the chrome around the grill as well, if not is that an option?

No, that is a stock TRD Pro grill in MGM. And yes, they would have done that too but it would have been expensive I think.

Did you order the supplies yourself? I found it on Amazon here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AG15GF2/_encoding=UTF8?coliid=IN3MF4XVLPQQ8&colid=38Y8704YM1EBH&psc=1. Anyone know how many sheets would be wise to purchase? I called around and figured having it done professionally is a better idea than doing it myself. Got a couple different quotes so maybe pulling the trigger in two or three weeks once I have time.

I did not... the installer took care of everything. I believe that he ordered a square yard for the install.... if I has tried, I would have needed twice that.

I just did this job myself and it was pretty time consuming. 3M materials cost me $110, and I spent about 8 hours doing the front bumper caps, hood bulge, and grill surround.

Color is pretty close to a match, but not exact. I was quoted $375 for the materials and labor by a local shop so I am pretty pleased that I saved $265 + tax.

So....FINALLY.... I got some free time this past weekend and decided to attack the end caps.

Bumper disassembly was pretty straight forward after watching a couple of YT vids.
I had a small dent below the pass fog light. With everything apart, I went at it with a dead blow hammer and little puddy. In the right light, it's still noticeable. Nobody ever noticed the bigger dent before, and while I like to keep it clean, it's a truck...battle scars happen.

After several hours each day, and a heat-gun burn, here's the result...
I'm also installing some BD Squadron sports as well. Ended up with needing some new fog light bezels so hopefully I'll have everything back together by Wed/Thur.

Got the new bezels in last weekend and finally had some breaks in the weather and work travel to get everything installed the last few days. Again, super happy with the vinyl... I just asked a friend today to tell me what was wrapped and he couldn't tell.

The Baja's are some bad ass lights...super bright. I had some yellow bulbs in the stock fogs, and the comparison....well, there really isn't any.
    Super stoked!

Hi @Bshell. First, Welcome! I'm in the Conyers/ Covington area.
I'm not sure if you were asking me about the local shops, but I did the wrapping myself. I'm not sure of any shops that do vinyl wrap.

I was, thanks for the response. Most places around here don't want to mess with it so I may try it myself as well. Better clear my Saturday!

I measure the overall area, then add a good 6+" all around. Good vinyl will stretch and respond to heat.
For the front caps, I started at front (flat area around the fog light opening), with little/no stretching. I wanted to be sure I had enough stretch available to form down into and around the inside edges of the fog bezel openings. I then used gentle heat and stretching as I worked my way out to the edges. Some corners required a bit more stretching.
Get a few beers and put on your patient britches.
