Planning to eventually buy a front bumper so no need to color match. Added about 6 layers of plasti dip

That came out great! I did it last summer. Might strip and do a new coat after all the gravel they dump when it snows in Colorado

The mirrors were factory installed. They worked great when I took my camper on vacation.

I’m going to do the rear bumper soon. I need to fix a minor ding on the chrome before I do them. I have a friend who is fixing it soon

Are you doing any special prep to the chrome or just a good cleaning?

Obviously a noob here but is there a specific brand, or a link to step by steps on how to do this? Everything else seems so pricey compared to this option.

1 can is more than enough for the fronts. I went to Ebay and bought a 6 pack for about $30.

Only prep is a real good scrubbing...started with a very mild coat first spray...then heavy on second and moderate spray on rest of coats

I'd recommend at the very least scuffing it with a scotch brite pad. Chrome is a slick surface and plasti dip is meant to be temporary.

I just painted all the chrome on mine and sanded with 60, 800, then smoothed it out with 1500. Sanded until the shine was gone without taking the chrome off. Never had paint come off after doing this.

    Great job OP!

An alternative is AutoDip in Gloss Black, especially if you have a black Tundra and want to lustre match the body. Do the mirror caps too and the bumpers will accent with them.

If you plan to preserve the chrome (I'd never go back lol) or for the next owner and not sand it down, you can make the Dip stick better by applying super thin coats at the beginning, drying in between, so that the chrome isn't really 100% covered until the 4th coat or more, as shown on youtube Dip vids.

The other thing to do is to soak the can in warm tap water beforehand and it'll be more misty.

Looks good! I finally did the same. I was skeptical, but it looks like it will hold up. 64A542E0-1DA5-4213-AB81-F5463C387274.jpg
