    Hey Guys,

I'm wanting to cover the chrome that is by my shifter knob and was wondering how to remove it. I don't want to break anything and I heard that it is somewhat hard to remove. Can anyone give me some advice or assistance as to how to remove this? I was thinking of removing the shifter trim from the inside but not sure if that is the right way to approach. I attached a photo. Let me know if I'm going at this correctly or if there is a better way. Thanks.

You will have to remove the center console first. If you try to pry it off you will break it. Its attached by tabs and the plastic is fused together. Look for this thread for directions. "2014+ Dash trim removal for painting or wrapping"

You don’t have to remove the whole console and that silver part doesn’t come apart just as is

It does. you can probably pry it off. I took my whole console apart cuz I was taking more than that off.

Here’s some photos on how to do it, pry up the front first, then grab from the left side and pull as straight up as possible and it will release. Takes a little bit of force but comes pretty easy.

Doesn't look that hard, just gotta use a little pressure. Hey since you have it off --- can you tell what it's going to take to remove the plate that has the chrome trim by the shifter knob? Are there some screws or does that plate also just pop off once you remove the shifter knob?

Are you talking about around the cup holders? It just tabs and come off easily. but the chrome doesn't. I didn't take off the chrome around the shift knob pathway.

There is an older OEM one that is black, but it's the same shape as the silver one. I got one on ebay for like $35. Might be cheaper to figure out how to take it apart and paint/wrap instead.

I need to remove the chrome piece around the cup holders and do something to that though, I don't like getting blinded by it...

Well I figured out how to remove the shifter plate that is around the shifter knob that I circled in red above. Basically there are clips on both sides of this plate. When you get the larger plate off that is shown in the photos above by Walters96, you just unhook the clips and the shifter plate lifts right out. Pretty easy once I got the clips unhooked. Now just have to wait for the paint to dry and I will no longer be blinded by the sun off these chrome pieces!

Thanks for all the help guys!

I have the part out, does the gray piece come out of the frame? There's clips underneath but it seems glued/fused at the plastic round rivets.
