I have a question on how this works..

I have a 2018 Tundra and have programed my mirror to open the garage door… My truck sits in the driveway and will not fin in the garage. If someone was to break in can they just hit the button and open the garage door? If so is there a way it will only work if the truck is started?

I have a 16 and it does work with the truck off. As far as turning it off, not that I know of. Maybe someone else will chime in....

There's usually a lock feature on the main opener controls inside your garage, but you just have to remember to turn it on and off.

A little of this and a little of that.

Are you referring to the opener or the remote?

The switch/panel inside your garage that you'd use to open the door normally from the inside. I guess it depends on how old your door opener is, but most built within the last 10-15 years have it. It just keeps remotes from being able to open the door.

I guess I need to update my opener then cause I don’t have this feature and worry someone could get. Into the garage through my vehicle.

Then they’ll have access to the house but then again that’s what the alarm and guns are for, right?

The mirror gets power all the time. You'd have to cut that wire and then run a new wire up to it from an ignition source.

Go to bobsmirrors.com explain what you want He made me a short jumper wire harness that goes between the mirror and the wire coming from the headliner. My homelink now only works with the ignition on.

The point is moot, since most likely you leave the remote garage opener in the car to start with we all do. So if they break in and use the remote would that be any different than using the mirror to open it, what id suggest is to program a different button rather than the obvious first one to begin with. By the way I have a 2016 and have been unsuccessful in getting the mirror programming to work for me.

Update, finally got it to work, I had to go to the garage door unit and press the learn button, it worked first time i tried, so all its good now. Thanks for the help.
