Just a little info for those who wish to do this. If your truck has the back up camera the wires for the lock actuator are already back under the bumper. Look where the wires come out of tailgate into bumper, behind bumper where the camera plugs in are the extra wires for the lock. All you need is a few feet of 18 ga wire and a couple of pin outs to push into connector and the actuator (buy on ebay for $5). Pretty simple job.

Interesting. I’m surprised nobody has ever pointed this out. I installed the lock actuator in and ran the wires all the way to the passenger kick panels. It works great but it would’ve been nice if I could’ve tied in to the factory wiring at the rear of the truck.

I'm going to check this out this weekend and swap the wiring over, if true... and maybe that'll leave my existing wires open for bed lighting or something.

@Toymakerky, I'm not seeing this under my '18, only the camera harness and the tail lights:

Do you mind elaborating at little bit? I have the pop and lock and am hoping to install this weekend on a 2018 Platinum. If I'm reading your intention of the thread wrong, let me know..wont be the first time.

    Cheers!

I added an actuator to my tailgate and there was no wiring there. My guess is the OP bought a used truck but the previous owner removed the pop n lock actuator but left the wiring in place.

Not saying the wires aren’t there, but why would Toyota run them if there was no option for a tailgate lock from the factory?

    see sig for mods.....
I'll add my voice to the 'what are you seeing' chorus. I added the LED Bedlights and Tailgate lock, and there are no wires run to the rear of the truck to actuate the tailgate lock, or power the bed lights, at least on trucks up to 2017. 2018+ I have no idea.

The question on this thread relates to the availability of the connection at the tailgate vs running the wires to the kick panel in the front of the truck.

Believe that is the pop n lock on the site

Thankfully I have to wait for Christmas for the LED bed lights for the install so I don’t feel like I’m watching paint dry waiting for the tip.

I know its a factory option on the 2018's and I plan to open mine up this weekend and see if the wires are in the tailgate so i will try and update the thread when that happens.
