My Pre Collision Sensor on my 2018 Tundra keeps turning on and off by itself. The dealership said my truck needed a software update and this should fix the problem. It did not. I see by this forum that I'm not alone. I'd like to hear some ideas before I head back to dealer.

I generally turn mine off. I don't think the software update will be that helpful, but their not going to do anything more until they apply their "update".

So I have a 2018 Tundra. I have had similar problems since I have owned this truck. I have had intermittent problems and have been back to my local dealer 4 times and two sensor replacements. I would assume software has been updated, but who knows. So this has been escalated to the shop Forman and a ticket has been left open with Toyota Corporate. The last sensor replaced, I saw the light come on and drove it directly into my dealer. They asked that I hold off on washing my truck for about two weeks as they believe the high pressure wash is seeping into the sensor causing it to trip. I am not feeling it that a truck cannot handle a car wash. I have been driving for 5 days without a light. But it usually takes 7 -14 days for it to trip again. So that is my story on this.

I hope the car wash is not the issue. I run my truck through the car wash once a week.

I didn't wash my truck regularly until just a few weeks ago and had this issue. I don't think it's the car wash, however, I can't rule it out. Though it would seem there would be more people with problems if this were the case. Also, not every Tundra driver is seeing this, so pinning it down has been like trying to nail jello to a wall.

Mine works fine, anytime i am cut off or brake hard and there is a car in front of me that suddenly stops it works. Having said that, i did have a time when it went on and i was wondering why is it flashing and beeping, there was nothing in front of me or any snow or debris covering the radar.

Mine has been going off and on for about 2 weeks now. I try to take a picture of it so i can have them to show the dealer when i take it in. It says it's off but it shows it still being on.

UPDATE...I took my truck back to the dealership and talked with a manager. He said he is fully aware of this issue. They’ve replaced the sensor in a few trucks and so far that has fixed the problem in all of them. They’ve ordered me a sensor and started a case with Toyota.

If you have lifted the truck at all it also likely needs to be recalibrated.

It hasn’t been lifted. No modifications other than side window tint. Mine was rock solid for the 1st 7000 miles. I have 12000 miles on it now. Drove it to Canada and back with no issues. I bought my truck in May.

I've 2018 4x4 SR5 Sport & same problems. I'd no issues before taking to dealer in compliance with recall notice. I'm ASE tech. in the business for 47 years. I'd installed Jet Performance upgrades & programmer, saw dash lights/warnings, narrowed down to MAF sensor from the company and all went away. I took my truck to dealer for recall and was told my performance upgrade no issue with warranty. New software & parts relating to pre-collision recall would be installed. I'm certain this pre-collision issue is a MFR fault since just recently this is the only thing acting up intermittently. I'm OCD when it comes to maint. on this beautiful truck. I try to go through car wash once a week plus have the ceramic coat put on as well. I've 36k on the odometer. I was taking to dealer for the tire rotation & oil changes free per purchase agreement. I was also informed full synthetic oil used. 2 oil changes I noticed low oil on dipstick, notified them and it was almost like defending themselves. I was only trying to let them be aware of it. So now I change my oil & filter myself using Mobil 1 full synthetic in compliance with viscosity. I've also installed drilled/slotted rotors & ceramic pads for better heat control when towing my bass boat. This is my 2nd Tundra. I'd had a couple issues with the first one including a bad starter that is very expensive & bit of challenge to replace since under the intake manifold. Long story short: If this issue isn't ironed out including the recall for turn signals "something with Wire harness" not being bright enough...I will look to a different MFR and get rid of this vehicle. I'm still working (very thankful for a job) through this pandemic since I'm Essential Personnel and life is too short to be frustrated with nuances like these. You work hard for your money & this is mode of travel & comfort! Get it fixed Toyota!

I have had an issue with my sensor a couple of times first thing in the morning. Both times it cleared up after a few miles. Other than that it’s been good. I’ve been happy with it but I don’t expect it to be perfect.

My Pre-collision issue started several weeks ago just like that. Every once in while activate then few miles clear up until yesterday going down the road in traffic it suddenly activated, dashboard message & light. I turned off on side road thinking maybe fuel pump quit as it felt like it was stalling. It was decelerating. Also, now every time I shut the truck off & start up I've to deactivate the Pre-collision function because it's an auto on function with every start up. This malfunction can & will cause an accident. As close as people tailgate today you're looking at a rear end collision in the making. Bad weather is another set of issues.

Some 18’s have the issues and some don’t. Toyota bought mine back because of my pre-collision issues. Started the first month of owning it. Ended up lifting it because the sensor was messed up anyway. Some tech would always try to say it’s because of the lift. Then the service manager would yell at them for not knowing what they are talking about. I know the service manager, and I’ve always told him that their techs always blame everything else but Toyota for the issues. I will tell the techs that I had this issue for the first 10,000 miles of the vehicle before it was lifted. They just apologize and walk away.
