Hey guys!! I have everything I need to install my Squadron Pros as my ditch lights. However I am confused on the wiring. Can someone please help me figure out which wires to connect with each other? I have a general idea of which wires to connect but I have no idea what connects to the dash switch.
    Thanks in advance!!!01F2791F-1D8F-4EAF-9B04-49BB193D6C2F.jpg390BC7C9-1876-4FB7-A77B-E255E8AB1B60.jpgCCDC4E0F-2A6D-4AE6-97A5-9433C8BC8850.jpg

I would recommend making a relay harness. Those switches don't have a high amp rating. Could only power maybe squadron sports. Anything larger would fry the switch.

Black goes to black that should be ground, top Red on Baja switch goes to green main power , 2nd red on Baja switch goes to the relay power which is the first red on the oem, then that second red on the oem switch is dash light power it connects to your illumination power in the dash off another switch. This was the blue wire on every factory switch in the panel.

So I am about to order what ever I need to install these ditch lights on the wifes 4runner. Couple questions: First I see on Rago's site and like mentioned above that switch requires a relay. Are people just ignoring that or did you have to order another harness with a relay? If i am not mistaken BD SKU 640117 has a relay in it and would work for Squadron Sports. Next the harness that is included with the lights is not long enough to connect the Pass side light to the Drivers side light. I bought wire, heat shrink, and environmental splices to add a section of wire to make that section of the harness long enough. I am assuming everyone has to splice in a section of wire to make that harness fit right? Or is there one that is long enough you can order? @Baja Designs any help? Is Rago not active on here any more? Tried to tag them bought it wouldn't work. Thanks for any help.

It comes with the relay already wired into the harness. I did have to splice in some extra wiring to get the correct length to the passenger side. Baja lights even come with extra connectors.

I had to go verify I wasn’t loosing my mind. As I remembered no relay in the harness included with the lights. There is a fuse(15 amp) which is way higher then the switch(square factory style from Rago) is rated.
    Here is what I have.

Thank you for confirming the extra length and good call on the extra connectors. Now I only need two splices instead of 4.

If I were you I would not run that without a relay. Follow my wiring diagram and you should be good.

I am assuming you just picked up a relay and some wire and built your harness? I’m not opposed to that but for simplicity if that harness part number I had was right I wouldn’t mind just getting that one. Guess I need to see what relays cost.

Disregard what I said earlier.....now I remember what I did! I got the caliraised LED harness with relay, and used the connectors from the Baja harness. With the switch I got from Rago.

Wiring a light bar involves two steps. First, you need to wire up the switch inside the cab. The switch has 4 wires, one of these wires (red) goes into the engine bay to provide the “trigger” for the relay. The relay then has 4 wires you need to hook up (one of which is the trigger from the switch inside cab) the other 3 wires; 1 gets grounded, 1 goes to battery, 1 goes to light bar. It’s very simple stuff when you break it down and know how to connect wires of various sizes (solder is best).

You need to run switch to a relay, 30amp, which then powers light. switches are like 3 amps and will fry if used to power light bar with no relay.

Thank you guys for the help. @BlueBottle I appreciate your diagram. I think I figured this out and found the relay harness on Rago's site. I need to order the switch and want the relay holder so will probably just add the harness in with it. I don't feel like measuring out all the wires and getting other material to build the harness. But if I do go that route my last question is that green wire is where you ran your inline 5amp fuse for the switch right?

The green wire is where I normally use an add a fuse on an existing ignition fuse. Or park light fuse.

Keep in mind if you order the Ragu harness there is a great chance you will have to modify it. They normally set their harness up so it’s always live. My diagram is so the park light or ignition has to be on for the lights to work. So you don’t accidentally leave them on.

30 and 87 is c and no. In other words it’s not polarity sensitive and will work either way.

Well in the interest of saving time I ordered that relay harness from Rago. Going to try and install everything on next Tuesday or Wednesday.

    @BlueBottle

Well, you are probably helping a lot more people than you realize. I've got a few lighting projects that I'm about to start on with my truck and I didn't realize I needed a relay. I don't have a lot of electrical knowledge. In fact I wasn't 100% sure what a relay really did or why you would want to use one. Your posts sent me back to Google University and I became just enough of an expert to be dangerous.

    Anyway thanks!

I found one site in particular that explains things nicely. https://www.12voltplanet.co.uk/relay-guide.html

Sweet. Glad to see you had the initiative to look it up and learn. That’s what separates the people that learn more and that don’t.

But if you have more than two sets of lights I highly recommend a switch pro. It will make wiring additional lights so much easier and no more need for any additional relays or switches in the cab.

Switch pro, ok got it. I do, so anything to make it easier. This is my start to wiring any additional 12 volt accessories. Probably overkill, but I get a little overboard with most things.
