Had the truck up on the Outer Banks NC. Aired the tires down to 25psi and never had a problem. Drove through the softest sand. Saw many a F150 and Rams get stuck especially near the ramps where sand is softest. Cant wait for fall fishing trip.

I used to take my Tacoma out on the beaches of obx. I had 255s x17 and aired down to 15psi. The truck did very well in 2wd and 4wd, better than my buddies tundra which has 20s on it and he aired down to 25psi. It's all about a wide and soft footprint out there. One day I pulled out a bmwx5, x3, Mercedes SUV, Lexus rx, highlander, a couple subarus, an explorer and a few other SUVs with AWD. None of them aired down, they all had low profile tires and poor ground clearance and the drivers all were just gunning the gas and had no clue how to drive. My shovel and pull strap got a work out that day and I ended up with a few hundred bucks in my pocket. I ended up using it to buy some beer, and tracks and nice auto tire deflators.....then never went back to the beach lol. I would love to take the tundra down there soon.

We go to the OBX every year and drive from TX. Hoping to take the Tundra next year so I can hit the beaches to do some fishing, assuming the damn birds nesting don't cause the beaches to be closed.

I need to take the Tundra to obx. Just bought it a few months back. Really need to check it out on some sand. Nowhere else to off-road around here in south east Virginia.

I was down there a few weeks ago-Avon, Buxton, Frisco, Hatteras. Really dig the Cape off road, just past the lighthouse. The great thing about my Crewmax is that it pushes over 550 horses and I don't have to deflate tires.

Yeah, you'll really enjoy it, apart from getting through Nags Head in the summer. Cape Hatteras National Seashore is probably my favorite place on earth. LOT of memories. Wish I could figure out a way to live there. Like you said, SE VA has little to offer, which is unfortunate. Check out Corolla as well. Long beach drive, and if you go in the winter, the speed limit goes all the way up to 35!!

Yeah I grew up in Chesapeake so I used to go down to Hatteras all the the time. Camping on the beach and surf fishing in my 87 Toyota 4x4 king can pickup. Been years since I’ve gone. Having the Tundra is giving the itch to go back just for the driving experience. Definitely have to make time and check out Corolla. They let you drive on the beach in winter in Corolla?

Yeah, and it's empty, which is nice. It's been a few years since I went in winter, but I also think they waive the offroad fee, so it's free. Great drive. Definite Tundra territory.

So, being from Chesapeake, you know the Banks. And here I am being all nostalgic and explaining things you already knew. Sorry about that.:D I lived in Newport News when I was younger. I know Tidewater very well.

All good. I haven’t been down there in probably 10 years. I’m sure a lot has changed.

The landscape looks like it did 30 years ago. What changed is that it got "discovered" by the rest of the world, and the sheer volume of people during the summer is astounding. Kinda unavoidable I guess. But it's still relatively quiet and uncrowded on Hatteras Island (thankfully).
